‘Ted Lasso’ Hints at Rupert’s Return — Is He Working Alone?

Ted Lasso‘s latest episode hinted at the return of a familiar foe as Higgins (Jeremy Swift) realized the shares for A.F.C. Richmond were being bought up. Warning: Spoilers for Ted Lasso Season 4, Episode 8!

Clues and paper trails, as well as a tip-off from Mae (Annette Badland), pointed Higgins in the direction of Rupert (Anthony Head), Rebecca’s (Hannah Waddingham) bitter ex-husband, who fans may recall launched his own team in Season 3, only to be ousted from his position for misconduct.

While Higgins’ investigation into the sold shares is far from over by the end of Episode 8, it’s clear that Rupert is the prime suspect. But it also has us wondering: does Rupert have insider information?

Although we’ve enjoyed watching Zelda (Tracey Ullman) embed herself into the Richmond family as a wealthy benefactor supporting the women’s team, we can’t help but be a little suspicious. Just as Zelda’s hired in an official capacity, the shares suddenly start disappearing from the original holders.

The timing feels a little too on the nose, but is it possible that this woman, who has positioned herself as a feminist champion, really be going in with sabotaging intentions? The only element that gives us pause and raises concern is the way her New Year’s Eve party unfolded, as there were certainly some questionable figures attending the masked shindig.

Could one of those masked attendees have been Rupert? Only time will tell, as two episodes remain this season. As we previously speculated, it is possible that Head could make a posthumous appearance in the series as Rupert, as the actor died after Season 4 filming had wrapped.
