What To Know

  • Ted Lasso‘s finale unveiled Ted’s next chapter and more twists as Season 4 came to an end.
  • We look at what loose threads remain after the moving episode.

Ted Lasso Season 4 has come to an end, but is it goodbye for good? The finale installment, “Being Alive,” certainly left the characters off in a positive spot with their futures carved out, but there was also room for more storytelling as the chapter of A.F.C. Richmond’s women’s team was just beginning. Warning: Spoilers for the Ted Lasso Season 4 Finale!

The episode opened with a celebration of life for Mae (Annette Badland), who died at Richmond’s away game against Bristol in the prior episode. The occasion put a lot of things into perspective for the crew as they strove for a big win in the end.  Ted’s (Jason Sudeikis) son, Henry (Grant Feely), was particularly emotional about the event and had a heart-to-heart with his dad about losing someone you loved.

It also led Ted to lie to his son about the nature of his own father’s death, which the audience knows was by suicide. Although he wanted to protect Henry from the tragic truth, he ultimately got honest with his boy before the finale episode was through, which deepened their father-son bond.

Keeley (Juno Temple) worked her marketing magic to launch a viral video worthy of filling the stands at Richmond, giving the Lady Greyhounds full attendance at their final game played in memory of Mae. Among the attendees were familiar faces like Dani Rojas (Cristo Fernández), Sam Obisanya (Toheeb Jimoh), Colin Hughes (Billy Harris), and Isaac McAdoo (Kola Bokinni).

Roy (Brett Goldstein), on the other hand, needed to sort out his feelings about a job offer to be head coach at Chelsea, which he ultimately decided to do with a little help from an impromptu meeting of the Diamond Dogs, as Nate (Nick Mohammed) visited the team while he was visiting Richmond with his wife and new baby! Although Roy didn’t bring up the job, he discussed his and Keeley’s baby on the way and his concerns about being a good dad.

Meanwhile, the mystery about who bought up Richmond’s shares was revealed during the shareholder meeting, but unbeknownst to Zelda (Tracey Ullman), who was eager to take over the franchise, Higgins (Jeremy Swift) and Rebecca had caught on to her plan and managed to maintain majority shares.

But it appeared that Zelda wasn’t entirely dismissed from Richmond, as she remained a highly invested member of the team. Despite the victory, Rebecca’s happiness didn’t last too long as Roy revealed his plan to Rebecca about coaching for Chelsea. Rebecca promised that no matter what happened, Roy would always have a place with Richmond. And despite Roy’s departure, it seemed that Richmond had retained Keeley as the head of their PR team.

Meanwhile, Rebecca proposed to her boyfriend Matthijs (Matteo van der Grijn), who came to visit her after the Lady Greyhounds’ victory, and he accepted. Ted spoke candidly with Rebecca about his own future with the team, and it was revealed in the episode’s final moments that he’d asked to be demoted to Assistant Manager, giving the role of Head Manager to Alice (Tanya Reynolds), who was revealed to be the source behind Ted’s finicky desk chair.

And although Mae is no longer part of the show going forward, her legacy was proven to live on with Baz (Adam Colborne), Paul (Kevin Garry), and Jeremy (Bronson Webb), who were left with The Crown & Anchor Pub, which kept the business running. While most of the stories were wrapped up for the season, there was definitely room left to carry on as we hope to see what Alice brings to the team as the head coach in charge of the Lady Greyhounds.
