‘Boston Blue’: Meet Elena (Again) — Baez’s Daughter Joins Season 2

Maria Baez’s daughter, Elena, is joining Boston Blue Season 2! Marisa Ramirez‘s Baez adopted the baby Elena in the Blue Bloods Season 12 finale. Now, she’s a few years older and might be moving to Boston full-time if everything goes according to plan for her mom and Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg), who are testing out living together in the new season. Elena is played by twin sisters Eleanor and Penelope Yataco. You can see Elena with Danny in the photo from Boston Blue Season 2, above.

Danny asked Baez to move in with him in Boston in the Season 1 finale. In Season 2, “They are cohabitating,” executive producer Brandon Margolis confirms to TV Insider.

“It’s a relationship in transition, but yes, they are figuring it out and making it work,” says Margolis. “Danny’s got a new place, and they are building a new life.”

Boston Blue Season 2 premieres on Friday, October 9, on CBS. With two sons fully grown and pursuing their careers, Danny hasn’t been a parent to young kids in a while. He’s getting used to having a little kid around again in the second season of the Blue Bloods spinoff, and a daughter at that!

'Boston Blue' Season 2: Sonequa Martin-Green Teases Lena & Danny's Next Big Challenge

“The relationship between Danny and Elena is pretty magic,” executive producer Brandon Sonnier tells TV Insider, adding, “Girl dads are different!”

“It’s very fun to see,” Sonnier shares. “We’re showing different sides of Danny. Danny [is] sort of going back to the role of being, for all intents and purposes, dad to a young kid, which we haven’t seen for many years, and [getting] another chance at maybe doing it differently than he did it the first time around.”

Danny and Baez were partners for years at the NYPD in Blue Bloods, and fans long desired for them to get together romantically. Danny finally asked Baez out on a date in the Blue Bloods series finale, and then the Boston Blue series premiere confirmed they were a couple. But Danny’s move to Boston, despite it being a necessary and understandable family decision after Sean’s (Mika Amonsen) injuries on the job, threw a wrench into Danny and Baez’s romance. The distance was hard, and Baez’s mother being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s made things even harder.

Danny and Baez broke up in Boston Blue Season 1 before the long-distance relationship could sour their feelings for each other. But they reunited in the finale after a dangerous day on the job left Lena (Sonequa Martin-Green) injured and Danny remembering what was important in life. He asked Baez to move her family to Boston, and she agreed. Baez is still a recurring character, not a series regular. But bringing Elena into the fold is a positive step forward for the couple as they try to blend their families.

“If there was a mantra for Season 2, it’s be careful what you wish for,” Margolis warns, “because at the end of the season, Lena was searching for this extended family and she found it. Well, now what? Danny talked about wanting to climb the ladder and bringing Baez closer into his life, and maybe that’s going to lead to things he could never have anticipated. Sarah got engaged, Mae’s declaring a reelection campaign. These are all the things that they were striving for, but now, careful what you wish for.”

Other Blue Bloods characters joining Elena in Boston Blue Season 2 are Henry Reagan (Len Cariou) in the premiere and Jamie Reagan (Will Estes) in a later episode.
