Jesse Watters Offers Surprising Praise for Democrat After Contentious Interview
What To Know
- Fox News’ Jesse Watters expressed unexpected admiration for Democratic Senate nominee Dr. Abdul El-Sayed.
- The pair had a heated 25-minute interview on Monday’s edition of Jesse Watters Primetime.
Fox News anchor Jesse Watters admitted that he “actually likes” Dr. Abdul El-Sayed, the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate in Michigan, even though he thinks he’d be a “terrible senator.”
The praise came after El-Sayed appeared on Monday’s (August 24) edition of Jesse Watters Primetime, where he went back and forth with Watters on a number of contentious topics. During the 25-minute interview, Watters asked El-Sayed about his campaign promises, such as Medicare for All, taxing the ultra-rich, abolishing ICE, and more.
One memorable moment came when Watters grilled El-Sayed about his stance on gender-affirming surgery for minors. In response, the Democratic nominee asked Watters, “Are you circumcised?”
The interview received praise from rival network MS NOW, with Morning Joe co-host Mika Brzezinski saying it was a “healthy” debate that news networks need more of.
“There was some great sparring there that I thought was healthy, and needed more for Democrats to step up, go on Fox News, for Fox News to have Democrats on,” Brzezinski said. “And by the way, for different points of view to show up on all of the networks that people watch. So, I thought this was really, actually constructive.”
She admitted, “It was a little hard to watch at times. But at the same time, I commend him for going on, and I commend Jesse Watters for having him. And I hope there’s more of it.”
Watters played a clip of Brzezinski’s comments on Tuesday’s (August 25) episode of his primetime Fox News show. Afterward, The Five cohost said, “I actually like Abdul. I probably shouldn’t like him, but I do.”
He continued, “I think he’d be a terrible senator, and he’s a little bit of a lunatic. But at least he’s not your typical stiff. Hakeem [Jeffries] talked to [Jared] Kushner because he wanted to help the country. Abdul talked to me because he wanted to help Michigan and himself.”
Watters concluded, saying, “And we all learned something… that I’m circumcised.”
