Full House star Jodie Sweetin recently opened up about her relationship with Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen today, more than 30 years after the show ended.

During a recent appearance on The McBride Rewind podcast, Sweetin, 44 — who played the middle sister, Stephanie Tanner, on the beloved sitcom — revealed where she stands with the Olsen twins, 40, now.

“Ashley, Mary-Kate, and I, they would come spend the night at my house. They’d come to my cabin on the weekends with my parents and I,” Sweetin recalled. “We’d go horseback riding. We would go to Disneyland. I mean, I’ve got pictures of us playing dress-up at my house. They’re like 3, I’m like 6. Just kid stuff, and I loved it.”

She explained, “I think after Full House and growing up and everything, they’ve had an extremely different trajectory than any of the rest of us. They were 8 years old when the show finished. If you knew somebody the first eight years of your life, and then you sort of drifted away, like, how many people do you still talk to from that? It’s not like it’s a bad thing.”

Sweetin also pointed out that the Olsen twins “don’t have as much recollection” of working on Full House because they were so young. “They did it, and then maybe had a few years of really remembering it,” she said. “And then moved on and did a whole host of other things in their life.”

Additionally, Sweetin speculated on why the actresses who played Michelle Tanner now prefer life out of the spotlight.

“Those girls worked their entire childhood. They did not have as many advocates making sure that they had a balanced childhood,” she pointed out. “So I can only imagine that their experience was very different than mine or Candace’s. We would take a hiatus, and I’d get a few months off. I’d go be a kid, we’d go on vacation, we’d do these things. And they would be doing movies, and the mystery series, and product launches, and all of this stuff. And it was a lot. It was a lot for them.”

Sweetin added, “And I think at some point, they were like, ‘This isn’t what I wanted to do ever. And I did a lot of it, and I just kind of want to go away from it… They’re very private people because they lost that. And so I think they fiercely protect that privacy.”

After Bob Saget, who played Danny Tanner, died in 2022, Sweetin said she reunited with her Full House co-stars — including Mary-Kate and Ashley.

“We all spent like four days just constantly together after Bob passed, and it was like nothing had changed,” she shared. “It’s not that there’s not a relationship there. It’s just that we live very different lives.”

Full House aired for eight seasons from 1987 to 1995. In addition to Sweetin, the Olsen twins, and Saget, the sitcom starred Candace Cameron Bure as DJ Tanner, Dave Coulier as Joey Gladstone, John Stamos as Jesse Katsopolis, Lori Loughlin as Aunt Becky, and Andrea Barber as Kimmy Gibbler, among others. In 2016, the Netflix spinoff series Fuller House premiered without Ashley and Mary-Kate’s involvement. It aired for five seasons until 2020.
