Whoopi Goldberg Wants Every Knicks Player at Trump’s White House — Here’s Why

Whoopi Goldberg on The View
ABC

The cohosts of The View were at odds on Thursday’s (June 18) live episode when it came to the topic of the New York Knicks’ owner, James Dolan, accepting an invitation to visit his “friend” Donald Trump and the White House after their NBA championship win, thereby forcing players to decide whether to follow his lead and attend.

Perhaps surprisingly, Whoopi Goldberg was a staunch advocate for every single Knicks player to attend a White House visit and shared her reasons in a fiery address.

“I want them to go. I want all those Black men to stand in our house and remind all of those people, as we tried to remind the vice president, that when you try to destroy one part of history, you’re destroying all of our histories. And they, as champions, not only as amazing basketball players, but as people who were down and came back up, [can say], ‘This is what this looks like. Yeah, this is what this looks like.’ So I want them to go, I want them to go. If only so the kids know that nobody, nobody can keep you down.”

Sunny Hostin, meanwhile, was against the players attending because she thought Trump would “politicize” the event, and Alyssa Farah Griffin argued that, while she supported the idea of the players attending the event, they should have the right not to go without retribution from Dolan or anyone else.

Sara Haines argued, though, that Dolan has put his players in an awkward position by publicizing his acceptance. “I will tell you, this puts the players in a really precarious position, merely because Jim Dolan is admittedly a good friend of Donald Trump’s, and to now put that on the players, your boss, the owner of the team you play for, is extending this offer, accepting this offer. I know you might get people that refuse to go, I just think it’s not fair to take any of the flowers and the beauty of this moment and its unity and try to then place it on the player’s backs,” she said.

Goldberg added, though, that the players visiting the White House isn’t about Trump. “For me, for this moment, it must be about more than him.”

I sure wish I’d have had the forethought to have recorded conversations of a now deceased black WWII veteran. He was and is a dear friend to me who I look forward to seeing in heaven. He was a tank and tank squadron commander of the first and only at the time all black tank division. They were created at the bequest of Eleanor Roosevelt. They were under the command of General Patton. We talked of the Real racism he faced after having served a decorated service in WWII. He passed away in 2012. If Whoopi could have heard him she’d have to have a forklift come in and pick her jaw up off the floor ! I miss him. It’s his memory and the brotherhoods I established in my own military service that keeps me grounded that people like Whoopi are dividers Not uniter’s. I Know that millions of black and white feel the way my good friend and I felt and still do. Try as she might we won’t let people like her divide us !

And you speak on Whoopi not bringing people together. Thats not her job she's an entertainer. But you really think Trump is bringing people together? Forget a whole UFC Fight on the White House lawn. But to have someone disrespect the former first lady like that? That's an example of the racism in America. The first Black First Lady and you do that on National Television? But I'm sure you won't blame Trump for that tho......

You’re absolutely right I won’t blame Trump for that. He didn’t make the comment you’re referring to. The person that made it is responsible to make any apologies. It’s called individual responsibility. Entertainer or not Whoopi has a large platform and in my view she used it inappropriately. And just because the liberal left Labeled Trump as a Nazi, Fascist, Racist doesn’t mean he’s any of those things.II’M responsible for my actions not someone else.Im sure you were fine with Biden having a PRIDE celebration on Easter Sunday one of if not The Holiest Days for Christians. But I understand the double standards of the left…….

Racism? The guy that said that about Michelle Obama was a black man, how is that racism? And also I was told blacks couldn't BE racist.

And as Forest Gump would say: “And just like that out comes the race card”. Keep trying to keep us divided Whoopi But sadly for you and Sharpton millions of Americans of all skin colors have moved past the racism your trying to perpetuate. There’s ONE who has and is bringing people of all skin colors together, his name is Jesus Christ The Lord. And against Him your efforts to keep us divided using the veneer of “racial justice” will be stymied to a large degree. Thank You God for Blessing America, Now Lord Please Forgive America for our (my) transgressions against you !
