‘Morning Joe’ Rips Into Republicans After Latest Mass Shooting

Joe Scarborough didn’t hold back on Thursday’s (August 28) edition of Morning Joe as he tore into congressional Republicans for failing to “act” when it comes to repeated mass shootings.
The MSNBC host’s comments came after a mass shooter opened fire during a school’s morning Mass at a Minneapolis Catholic church on Wednesday (August 27). Two children, aged 8 and 10, were killed in the attack, and 17 people were injured.
According to police, the attacker approached the side of the church and fired dozens of shots through the windows using three firearms, including a rifle, a shotgun, and a pistol. A smoke bomb was also discovered at the scene.
The attacker, later identified by police as 23-year-old Robin Westman, died at the scene of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Authorities have not yet released a suspected motive for the shooting.
“This is normal? No, there’s nothing normal about this,” Scarborough said after airing a clip of one child talking about how they practice active shooter drills in school but not in church.
“And it’s not a great mystery. It’s just not a great mystery,” he continued. “I mean, we have laws that are on the books that continue to allow crackpots to go into gun stores, get high-powered rifles and go and shoot up schools, go shoot up churches, go shoot up country music concerts.”
The former Republican congressman added, “And it seems to me Washington is far too comfortable doing that, letting that happen and all these bull**** excuses and all the bull**** calls for this, that or the other.”
Referencing the expression “thoughts and prayers,” which is commonly used after incidents such as this, Scarborough said, “The kids were hoping and praying. So hope, pray and act. But Republicans won’t do that third part in Congress. They just won’t do the third part in Congress.”
Scarborough’s co-host and wife, Mika Brzezinski, tried to move the segment on to introduce the guests, but the long-time morning news anchor wasn’t done.
“It keeps happening. It keeps happening,” he interrupted. “I mean, how many mass shootings do we have? It keeps happening where crackpots get a hold of a gun and they have more power in their hand, like in Uvalde, than police officers do outside… Is that really what they want?”
Brzezinski then added her thoughts, stating, “This is an American problem.”
