Craig Robinson Reacts to Comedy Show Being Canceled Due to Gunman
Craig Robinson, the comedian and actor best known for playing Darryl in the hit NBC sitcom The Office, was set to perform at a North Carolina comedy club on Saturday, July 16, when a gunman opened fire.
The Killing It star talked about the experience in an Instagram Live video, where he revealed he was set to perform at The Comedy Zone in Charlotte, North Carolina, before an active shooter descended on the venue. “There was an active shooter in the comedy club,” Robinson said, “So they moved us over… there’s a concert going on, and it’s Big Time Rush, so I thought I would share it with y’all.”
Robinson and others in the club were moved over to a Big Time Rush concert happening at a neighboring venue. “We had to run over here to this concert,” he told his followers. “That’s Big Time Rush, y’all. Big Time Rush! Big Time Rush to the rescue.”
He went to repeat, “Again, there was an active shooter at the club I was at.”

Robinson said he was in the green room when the gunman entered the building but reiterated to his followers that he was safe. “I’m cool. I’m safe. It was just wild,” he explained. “I was in the green room, and they were like, ‘Everybody get up.’ It was wild. It was a moment for sure.”
“Thank y’all, I appreciate the love,” Robinson told those watching his live stream before blowing a kiss and waving to the camera. Later in the video, someone in the background tells Robinson, “They got him,” seemingly referring to the alleged shooter.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department later issued a statement, writing, “Shortly after 9 p.m., a male suspect entered an establishment at the 900 block of NC Music Factory Boulevard. He brandished a firearm inside the business, which was quickly evacuated. The suspect then discharged his weapon. There were no injuries and the suspect was taken into custody.”

Robinson followed up with an Instagram post thanking the Comedy Zone security and staff, as well as the CMPD for their swift action. “Thanks be to God that no one was hurt,” he wrote.
