There are some wild calls ahead when 9-1-1 returns with its spring premiere on March 21, but perhaps what we’re most looking forward to is when we see Howie “Chimney” Han (Kenneth Choi) and Maddie Kendall (Jennifer Love Hewitt) again.

As you’ll recall, Maddie left earlier this season, explaining in a message that she didn’t feel it was safe to be around their daughter. Chimney then went looking for her. And now, in Fox’s latest preview for its first responder drama (which has been on break since December), we get a few teases about what to expect when the two (finally) resurface.

“Maddie’s return to the show will not disappoint. You will get the answers that you want. The audience will know why she left, why she stayed away, where she’s been, what she’s been up to,” Hewitt promises. “As far as Maddie and Chimney’s concerned, whether they’re going to be together, I don’t know.”

The second half of the season kicks off “with adrenaline,” according to Oliver Stark (who plays Evan “Buck” Buckley) and “pulse-pounding excitement,” Peter Krause (Captain Bobby Nash) promises. Expect to see one of the show’s biggest emergencies in a while in the spring premiere as 9-1-1 pays homage to Speed. (A family’s pick-up truck has been rigged with a pipe bomb that will detonate if the vehicle slows under 55 miles an hour.)

“We have these episodes where the characters are learning so much about themselves through the emergencies,” Stark says. Angela Bassett (Sergeant Athena Grant) adds, “it’s going to be that wonderful mix of these emotional, high-adrenaline rescues along with that warm side of falling in love with our characters.” Watch the video below for more, including a peek at some of the upcoming rescues.

Also coming up in the spring premiere, “Outside Looking In,” Eddie Diaz (Ryan Guzman), who left the 118 in the winter finale, has a rough transition into his new job. Plus, Buck makes an impulsive relationship decision, and Henrietta “Hen” Wilson (Aisha Hinds) is reluctant to accept a new partner in Chimney’s absence.
