‘Yellowstone’ Officially Renewed for Season 5 — Who’s Returning?
It’s official: Paramount Network’s hit drama isn’t going anywhere.
The network has announced that Yellowstone is returning for its fifth season, with production set to begin in May. This news comes after its recent nomination for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series for the 2022 Screen Actors Guild Awards, as well as for the Producers Guild of America Awards’ Norman Felton Award for Outstanding Producer of Episodic Television — Drama.
Jen Landon (Teeter) and Kathryn Kelly (Emily) have also been upped to series regulars. They’ll be joining the rest of the returning cast of Kevin Costner (John Dutton), Luke Grimes (Kayce Dutton), Kelly Reilly (Beth Dutton), Wes Bentley (Jamie Dutton), Cole Hauser (Rip Wheeler), Kelsey Asbille (Monica Dutton), Brecken Merrill (Tate Dutton), Jefferson White (Jimmy Hurdstrom), Forrie Smith (Lloyd), Denim Richards (Colby), Ian Bohen (Ryan), Finn Little (Carter), Ryan Bingham (Walker), and Gil Birmingham (Thomas Rainwater).
“Yellowstone‘s record-breaking performance proves we’ve tapped a cultural nerve and unleashed a passionate audience from the center of the country to each of the coasts,” said Chris McCarthy, President and CEO, ViacomCBS Media Networks. “Kevin Costner leads our incredible cast who make the Duttons America’s favorite family and, this new season is sure to be another one fans won’t want to miss.”
Added executive producer David C. Glasser, 101 Studios, “we are honored to be able to bring audiences another season of Yellowstone. The continued growth in viewership and the recent recognition from the guilds bolsters our commitment to continue to bring groundbreaking entertainment to audiences.”
The series follows the Dutton family, who controls the largest contiguous cattle ranch in the United States. Amid shifting alliances, unsolved murders, open wounds, and hard-earned respect — the ranch is in constant conflict with those it borders — an expanding town, an Indian reservation, and America’s first national park. Season 4 ended with Beth essentially ordering Jamie to kill his biological father Garrett (Will Patton), who’d ordered the failed hits on the rest of the Dutton family — and snapping a photo of him with his body. Meanwhile, Jimmy seemingly left the Dutton ranch behind, but given White’s returning — and Kelly’s promotion — we have to wonder how long they’ll stay in Texas.
With the official renewal for Season 5, we can’t help but wonder what the future holds beyond that. “I would be completely astounded if we didn’t shoot [a Season] 6,” Bohen recently told TV Insider. “And I’d say that there’s a fair chance we might shoot a seventh season. Just depends on whether the creator [Taylor Sheridan] wants to write another 10 episodes or if his story is finished at the 60th episode or not. So that’s it. And he’s gonna sit down and go, ‘what do I want to do? Do I want to keep doing this or do I want to do something different?'”
Yellowstone is co-created by Sheridan and John Linson. Joining them as executive producers are Art Linson, Costner, Glasser, Bob Yari, and Stephen Kay.
