Queen Latifah’s New Series, ‘Star’, to Premiere After ‘Empire’s Fall Finale

It’s been awhile since Queen Latifah has starred in a scripted TV series (yes, folks, it’s been 18 years since Living Single ended), any new series with her is big news by itself. But Star, the new Fox drama where she plays the mentor and protector of a group of young singers, is an even bigger deal because the network is doubling down on the formula that made Empire a huge hit.
To that end, the network announced today that the debut of the show, co-created by Lee Daniels, will follow the fall finale of Empire, which will air at a special time of 8/7c on Wednesday, Dec. 14.

Benjamin Bratt co-stars with Latifah on the series; the young singers will be played by Jude Demorest, Ryan Destiny, Brittany O’Grady and Amiyah Scott. Announced guest stars in the first season will include Lenny Kravitz, Tyrese Gibson and Naomi Campbell.
