Kristen Welker

American journalist Kristen Welker was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on July 1, 1976. Raised in Philadelphia, She would go on to graduate from Harvard University with a Bachelor's in American history. She began working as a news anchor for various organizations in Rhode Island, Philadelphia, and California. She joined NBC news in 2010, earning an Emmy nomination in her first year for her coverage of the national midterm elections. In 2011 she became a White House correspondent for NBC News, attending and reporting upon White House press briefings. During this time she occasionally filled in as an anchor on "The Today Show" (NBC, 1952- ) and "NBC Nightly News" (NBC, 1970- ). She joined Peter Alexander co-anchoring "Weekend Today" (NBC, 1987- ) in early 2020. She was named as Chuck Todd's replacement as the moderator for "Meet the Press" (NBC, 1947- ), becoming the second woman ever and the first Black journalist to moderate the program in 2023.
