8 Shows Not Returning Until 2021 That Ended With Major Cliffhangers
While the 2020-2021 season is getting back in swing and more and more premiere dates for October and November are being announced all the time, there are still some favorite shows that won’t be back until after January 1.
And what makes that wait feel even longer is that quite a few ended on major cliffhangers. (We’re specifically looking at the finales themselves, not necessarily anything that’s been announced since, for example, how Batwoman handles Ruby Rose‘s exit since Kate Kane was perfectly fine at the end of Season 1.)
From a character demonstrating the murderous impulses everyone thought her sibling might be suppressing on Prodigal Son to a major disappearance on The Flash to potential legal trouble for The Rookie, we’re rounding up the shows that we need to return ASAP (in 2021) to answer our burning questions.
The Flash (The CW)
When Season 6 ended, Iris (Candice Patton) disappeared to somewhere unknown in the Mirrorverse (where she, Victoria Park’s Kamilla, and Patrick Sabongui’s Singh are still trapped). Meanwhile, out in the real world, Eva (Efrat Dor) framed Sue (Natalie Dreyfuss) for her husband’s murder and Team Flash was still trying to create an artificial speed force for Barry (Grant Gustin), who’s running on limited speed.
Legends of Tomorrow (The CW)
Sara Lance (Caity Lotz) was abducted by aliens in the final moments of the finale, and since the Arrowverse has dealt with extraterrestrials before, we’re very curious to see how Legends of Tomorrow‘s stand out.
Manifest (NBC)
The NBC drama began with the passengers of Flight 828 landing five years after takeoff, and soon after, that plane exploded. But at the end of the Season 2 finale, the tail fin of that plane was found in the ocean. How?!
Nancy Drew (The CW)
The Drew Crew all saw portents of their deaths, including drownings, being burned alive, and, for Nancy (Kennedy McMann), falling to her death like her mother Lucy.
Prodigal Son (Fox)
One of the questions going into the Fox drama was simple: Is profiler Malcolm Bright (Tom Payne) like his father, serial killer Martin Whitly, a.k.a. the Surgeon (Michael Sheen)? Well, it turns out we should have been worried about Malcolm’s sister Ainsley (Halston Sage) because she’s the one who brutally murdered the evil Nicholas Endicott (Dermot Mulroney) in the first season’s final moments.
Riverdale (The CW)
The Voyeur’s latest tape was the most chilling yet. (Recording town residents’ houses and staging crimes from over the years looked like child’s play next to it.) Six people in masks of the teens “killed” someone in a Mr. Honey mask just as Jughead (Cole Sprouse) had originally written (before scrapping) in a revenge fantasy. Just how many people are involved? And how far will they go?
The Rookie (ABC)
Crooked detective Nick Armstrong (Harold Perrineau) framed John Nolan (Nathan Fillion) for his crimes, and the finale ended with the police showing up as the rookie found that evidence. Will the officer be in serious trouble when Season 3 begins, or will he be able to prove Armstrong is the one involved with the mob?
Supergirl (The CW)
Brainy (Jesse Rath) embarked on a suicide mission in the finale to shrink and bottle the immortal Leviathan, only for Lex Luthor (Jon Cryer) to take them from his hands. Brainy was dying last we saw him, but will the others find him in time to figure out how to save him?
