The first images for Mike Flanagan‘s latest Netflix horror series have arrived as part of the streamer unveiling the premiere date for The Fall of the House of Usher: Thursday, October 12, just in time for Halloween!

The series unites many of Flanagan’s collaborators and welcomes a few new faces into the mix for this eight-episode run that takes inspiration from the works of Edgar Allan Poe. In this “wicked” series, ruthless siblings Roderick (Bruce Greenwood) and Madeline Usher (Mary McDonnell) have built Fortunato Pharmaceuticals into an empire of wealth, privilege, and power.

But past secrets start coming to light when the heirs to the Usher dynasty start dying at the hands of a mysterious woman from their childhood. “It’s bats**t crazy in the best possible way. It has quite a lot of very dark humor, but also really touches the soul,” Carla Gugino teased of the series when asked by Netflix for Tudum.com while in production last year.

“There is a fantastical supernatural element to the story, and she is the manifestation of that,” she noted of her character, Verna. “You could say she’s the executor of fate or the executor of karma.”

For those familiar with Flanagan’s Netflix library, he’s helmed favorites including The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Midnight Mass, and last year’s The Midnight Club. Stars from all of those shows play a role in this latest work, which features Gugino, Greenwood, McDonnell, Carl Lumbly, Mark Hamill, Michael Trucco, T’Nia Miller, Paola Nuñez, Henry Thomas, Kyleigh Curran, Samantha Sloyan, Rahul Kohli, Kate Siegel, Sauriyan Sapkota, Zach Gilford, Willa Fitzgerald, Katie Parker, Malcolm Goodwin, Crystal Balint, Aya Furukawa, Daniel Jun, Matt Biedel, Ruth Codd, Annabeth Gish, Igby Rigney, and Robert Longstreet.

Created for television by Flanagan, he serves as a director with Michael Fimognari, with each of them helming four installments. Flanagan, Fimognari, Trevor Macy, and Emmy Grinwis all serve as executive producers.
