‘High Potential’: 7 Burning Questions We Need Answered in Season 3

'High Potential' Season 3 burning questions
Disney / ABC

High Potential‘s second season may have ended in April 2026, but we’re still plagued with burning questions as we await Season 3 of ABC’s hit procedural starring Kaitlin Olson as high-IQ, LAPD consultant Morgan Gillory.

After a massive cliffhanger conclusion, more than one query was raised in Season 2’s final moments, whether it was Captain Wagner’s (Steve Howey) fate, Willa Quinn’s (Jennifer Jason Leigh) role, or the whereabouts of Morgan’s ex, Roman. And that doesn’t account for the safety of Soto (Judy Reyes), Karadec (Daniel Sunjata), or even Morgan’s kids, who were threatened in the Season 2 finale. Below, we’re taking a closer look at the loose threads we’re hoping Season 3 will remedy when the show finally returns.

Scroll down for a closer look and stay tuned for details on High Potential Season 3 as we approach the premiere in the months ahead.

Is Wagner going to survive?

The biggest question that was raised in High Potential Season 2’s closing minutes was whether or not Captain Wagner would survive his injuries after being stabbed by a mystery individual in a park late at night. Found by Morgan, he was gasping for breath following the attack. Will he make it, or have we seen the last of Major Crimes‘ newest leader?

Will we meet Roman?

While Morgan tended to Wagner in the park, a shadowy figure loomed in the background at her daughter Ava’s (Amirah J) art show. Could it be her dad, Roman, whom Morgan and Soto have been looking for since the start of Season 1? It certainly seemed so, and appeared to hint at the potential reveal of his identity after all of this time. We’re keeping our fingers crossed that the long-mysterious character is finally uncovered in Season 3.

Who is behind Wagner's stabbing?

There’s a plethora of possibilities when it comes to those responsible for Wagner’s stabbing, whether it was someone hired by Willa Quinn, his father Nick Sr. (Clancy Brown), or even Roman himself. Could Wagner’s attempt to help uncover a long and winding thread help to unmask a true and unknown threat?

Are Soto and Karadec in danger?

Season 2 of High Potential focused a lot on Soto and Karadec’s search for Roman, and after they took a leading role in the investigation, it feels like the targets on their backs may have grown. Could they be in danger as we head into Season 3? Soto assured Morgan that she wanted to see the investigation through, but could it have a lasting negative impact? We’ll be keeping an eye out.

Have we seen the last of Willa Quinn?

Willa Quinn was introduced as a political fixer who had a role in Roman’s disappearance. But it didn’t feel like her role in the unraveling story was done. Will she be back alongside Nick Sr. for more shady behavior? We feel like it’s a strong possibility, but only time will tell.

Will there be more romance in Morgan's future?

Morgan’s romantic journey in Season 2 involved a criminal, and at the end, Captain Wagner. Then, of course, there’s her partner Karadec, who fans have been wondering about since the start of their will-they-won’t-they dynamic, which was only ramped up even further. Will Season 3 make room for a more stable foundation for Morgan to consider romance more seriously? We’re sure viewers wouldn’t mind it!

Will Morgan's kids be targeted next?

At the end of Season 1, Morgan’s kids were threatened by the Game Maker (David Giuntoli), and that was echoed in Season 2’s finale after some words exchanged with Willa Quinn. Could Morgan’s bold moves and efforts to uncover the truth about Roman land her kids in trouble? It would certainly raise the stakes if her activities impacted them directly.

No to a paring of Morgan and Karadec! I liked her with Wagner, but obviously that's not going to happen.

I think Ava’s father should be a light skinned black man with deep blue eyes. Because of Ava’s features. I hope Nick doesn’t die, but I don’t know yet who should be Morgan’s love interest.

I love Olsen in IASIP, and was really into High Potential, until not one, but TWO hiatuses occured in season 2.

If you're going to give me 12+ weeks to find something else to watch, chances are I'm going to do it. And I did.
