‘Clarice’: Meet Agent Starling’s FBI ViCAP Colleagues (PHOTOS)

It’s 1993. A year after the events of The Silence of the Lambs — and her sessions with Hannibal Lecter that led to the capture of fellow serial killer Buffalo Bill — traumatized agent Clarice Starling (Rebecca Breeds, above) joins the FBI’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Program (ViCAP) task force.

Paul Krendler (Michael Cudlitz)
The former deputy assistant attorney general, who heads the team, has bad blood with Starling from the Buffalo Bill case. “He believes she had one lucky swing, and now she’s a press magnet, burdensome,” says showrunner Elizabeth Klaviter.
Tomás Esquivel (Lucca de Oliveira)
The former army sniper, of Brazilian, Cuban and Italian heritage, has faced racial hazing from other agents and is frequently underestimated. Tenacious and loyal, “He’s the first ViCAP member to truly welcome Clarice,” Klaviter notes.
Shaan Tripathi (Kal Penn)
Nicknamed “Liberry,” this ex-librarian and Smithsonian curator has an encyclopedic knowledge of history and ancient texts. “He’s always the smartest person in the room but never the know-it-all,” Klaviter offers of the empathic widower.
Murray Clarke (Nick Sandow)
Dubbed a “human lie detector,” he rose through the mostly white, mostly male ranks and retains significant bias. He shares Krendler’s take on Starling initially. “With each of Clarice’s successes, Clarke begins to warm to her,” Klaviter teases.
Ardelia Mapp (Devyn Tyler)
Assigned to the cold case division, she’s on the cutting edge of DNA evidence and analysis. The immigrant’s granddaughter was Starling’s roommate at Quantico. Says Klaviter, “Clarice trusts her more than any other person.”
