Is There a Future for ‘Wayward Pines’?
Is there life for Wayward Pines?
The Fox summer series—originally intended to be a limited event—was a hit in 2015, but failed to make the same splash this year. However, Fox Television Group CEO/chairman Dana Walden shared that there could still be life for the mystery show.

“I definitely think there could be a Season 3,” Walden told reporters on Monday after the networks Television Critics Association executive session panel. “It’s still the No. 1 scripted show of the summer. [But] it struggled. Most shows struggle year-to-year. We don’t know yet what we’re going to find when the multi-platform numbers roll up, how big that audience is.”
She did concede that the series struggled to find itself at times during its sophomore year. “I would say—and I think I’m sharing a point of view with [executive producer M.] Night [Shyamalan]—that the first couple of episodes were trying to find its way in a reset,” she said. “By the third episode on, it really hit its stride. It’s hard when you have to reinvent a series each season. But they have a really compelling idea for Season 3.”

Ideally, Walden said they’d like to decide whether Wayward Pines will return in the very near future. “I know Night’s schedule is busy,” she said. “And we have almost all the information we need. We just need a few more of the delayed viewing platform results.”
As for which cast members might return, that’s still very TBD. “I would anticipate some of them would be back, but it’s too premature [to say],” Walden said.
