What’s Worth Watching: Stephen Colbert, James Corden, ‘Downton Abbey’ and ‘Billions’ for Sunday, February 7
Late Show With Stephen Colbert (10/9c, time approximate after game): You may know a football game is being played tonight. But once the Super Bowl is over, the party’s just getting started. CBS gives its late-night hosts their biggest spotlight to date, maybe ever, in a first for the post-game slot. Colbert doubles down on comedy with guests including Tina Fey, Key & Peele, and Will Ferrell, along with Donald Trump’s favorite Fox News anchor, Megyn Kelly.
Late Late Show With James Corden (11:30/10:30c, time approximate): The underrated Corden uses the grand occasion of Super Bowl frenzy to present his most beloved and inspired gimmick, the Carpool Karaoke, with Elton John in the passenger seat. Look for recreations of classic Super Bowl ads, a tailgate party, and even a “Baby Bowl.”
Downton Abbey (9/8c, PBS, check local listings at pbs.org): Meanwhile, it’s business as usual on PBS, as Downton continues its march to the end. The Crawleys open their doors to the public for an Open House, where everyone’s treading lightly around Violet (Maggie Smith), who’s furious at what she sees as the latest betrayal in the hospital ruckus.
Billions (10/9c, Showtime): The Super Bowl may have Lady Gaga singing the National Anthem and Coldplay at halftime, but Billions has Metallica. Axe (Damian Lewis) and his childhood buds private-jet their way to Canada for a concert and private audience with the band. But he’s never far away from business, and must deal with a stock-manipulation move engineered by arch-nemesis Chuck’s (Paul Giamatti) own father (Jeffrey DeMunn).
