Too hot? Too cold? Just right! Disney Channel has set Wednesday, Nov.11 for the debut of its newest animated kiddie show Goldie & Bear (9:30am/8:30c), a fairy tale mash-up that riffs on Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Little Red Riding Hood, The Three Little Pigs, Jack and the Beanstalk and other classic stories and nursery rhymes—all with the intention of encouraging little ones to respect individuality and develop compassionate friendships.

The premiere episode features two tales. First up is “Jack & Jill,” in which little Goldie and her loyal pal Bear try to teach clumsy Jack and Jill (voiced by black-ish stars Miles Brown and Marsai Martin) how to fetch pails of water so they can reopen their lemonade stand. Then, in “Tiny Tale” (below), Fairy Godmother (Lesley Nicol from Downton Abbey) casts a spell that goes haywire and she unknowingly shrinks Goldie and Bear.

“Like Into the Woods and Once Upon a Time, we’re re-examining well-known fairy tale characters and bringing them more dimension—only in this case, we’re doing it for kids 2 to 7 in an age-appropriate way,” says director-executive producer Chris Gilligan (Frankenweenie). “You’d be surprised by how much mileage you can get out of these very simple stories!”
