What’s Worth Watching: The Cannibal in the Jungle Is Not the Opening to Season 3 of Hannibal
The Cannibal in the Jungle (Sunday, May 24, 9/8c, Animal Planet)
Unlike previous forays into scripted fare (ahem, Mermaids), this feature film is actually being touted as Not Real, though it is based on a real story. That story is the one about an American scientist convicted of killing and eating two colleagues in the Indonesian forest in 1977. The “American Cannibal” tried to lay the blame at the feet of some sort of Bigfoot-like animal, to no avail, but other scientists later found evidence of hobbit-like humans that lived in the area thousands of years ago. And legend claims they never went extinct. Peter Jackson will watch this, smack his forehead, and go, “All that money wasted on making Martin Freeman look tiny…”
