What’s Worth Watching: The Case of the Cannibal Cop Does Not Feature Actual Cannibalism

Thought Crimes: The Case of the Cannibal Cop (Monday, May 11, 9/8c, HBO)
March of 2013 got weird for the citizens of New York City. The NYPD’s motto is “To Protect and Serve,” but Officer Gilberto Valle took the “serve” part a little too literally and was convicted of conspiring to kidnap and eat women. The FBI faced an interesting dilemma: Had they waited until an actual crime was in progress, at least one innocent woman might have suffered a horrible fate. At the same time, what if Valle really is just a very, very sick twist who enjoys just the idea of kidnapping and eating women? Director Erin Lee Carr has interviews in spades to help find an answer.
