What’s Worth Watching: RuPaul Revs Up for Another Drag Race
RuPaul’s Drag Race Season Premiere (Monday, March 2, 9/8c, Logo)
Go big (hair) or go home—that’s one of many mantras the contestants in this outrageous Drag Queen for a Day reality competition must abide by as a seventh season struts into fabulous view. Queer Eye‘s Carson Kressley joins the judging panel with fellow newbie Ross Matthews, alongside the divine RuPaul and longtime sass maven Michelle Visage as they seek to discover and crown the next drag superstar.
Among the season’s celebrity guest judges: Ariana Grande, Jessica Alba, Demi Lovato, Kathy Griffin, Olivia Newton-John, and the statuesque Rebecca Romijn—and if RuPaul’s new finds don’t try to impersonate even a few of these modern icons, we’ll be sadly disappointed. RuPaul’s Drag Race is a riot of flamboyant expression, with campy challenges designed to bring out the fierceness of each drag artist, but at heart it’s also an inspirational parade of pride and self-acceptance, which is why even when the eliminations sting, RuPaul is on hand to provide the weekly blessing: “If you can’t love yourself, how in the hell you gonna love somebody else?”
