Whether you’re yay or neigh on My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, there’s no denying it’s a phenomenon. On April 15, Discovery Family launches Season 7 of the series, and though the target audience is little girls, the toon also lures legions of older viewers, both female and male. The guy groupies are known as Bronies, and some are rather famous. “We cast Patton Oswalt [as nitpicky horse Quibble Pants] after he tweeted he was a fan,” says series writer and Hasbro VP Meghan McCarthy. And William Shatner, another self-proclaimed Brony, will appear this summer in a role still under wraps. Broadway star Lena Hall was cast as pop-singing pony Coloratura after she dropped the “Friendship Is Magic” phrase into her 2014 Tony acceptance speech. “Hey, when you give us a shout-out like that,” says McCarthy, “you automatically get a part on our show!”
