‘The Amazing Race’: What Is the ‘BLA’? Season 39 Alliance, Explained

Leg 6 of The Amazing Race Season 39 begins on the October 28 episode, sending the remaining teams on another race around Albania. Early on in the season, an alliance formed between some of the teams, and they’ve named themselves the BLA.

What does BLA stand for on The Amazing Race?

BLA stands for “boss lady alliance,” and is made up of some of the all-female teams on The Amazing Race Season 39. It’s not very often that an all-female team wins the show, and the women joined forces to try and make sure that happens this time around.

Who is in the BLA on The Amazing Race Season 39?

The only teams left in the Boss Lady Alliance are Ali Krieger and Joanna Lohman (former professional soccer players and best friends) and Ann-Marie Tejcek and Riely Tejcek (mother and daughter). Ann-Marie and Riley recently made history by becoming the first mother/daughter team to win a leg of The Amazing Race (Leg 3 in Morocco).

Previous members of the alliance were Saran Dunmore and Dafina Dunmore (sisters) and Jody Rebhun and Jenn Naso (moms and best friends). Jody and Jenn were the third team eliminated from the race, while Saran and Dafina were the fourth team eliminated.

Sisters Katie Schultz and Charlotte Schultz were another all-female team in the race (they were eliminated second), but they were sent home before they had time to form close relationships with the other pairs and never officially joined the alliance.

How many teams are left on The Amazing Race Season 39?

There are eight total teams left on The Amazing Race Season 39. In addition to the two all-women teams, the other six teams are: Matt Patterson and Michelle Patterson (married parents), Erin Taylor and Javi Vintimilla (married), Doug Matter and Dylan Matter (grandfather and grandson), Daisha Wilks and Dalton Hamby (dating couple), Conner Wilson and Garrett McGuire (friends), and Anuar Tager and Andrea Tager Ballesca (father and daughter).

Michelle and Matt are proudly playing the game without an alliance and focusing on themselves, rather than relying on other teams. Meanwhile, Daisha and Dalton found themselves at odds with Ann-Marie and Riley during Leg 5 when they chose not to help them out with a task, despite the mother/daughter duo previously giving the couple assistance.
