The Season 1 finale of The Drop: A Snowfall Saga brings Wanda Bell’s (Gail Bean) battle for control of her music career to a violent conclusion, as old alliances crumble, family loyalties are tested, and a dangerous power play leaves everyone questioning who they can trust. With Darryl “DG” Grant (Brandon Mychal Smith) determined to cut her out of the business, Wanda makes one final move to reclaim her artists and her future. Still, getting what she wants comes at a price, and by the end of “Hercules,” she may have won the war while losing everything that really mattered. Warning: Spoilers ahead for The Drop Season 1, Episode 8, “Hercules.”

Wanda takes on DG

With Lamar Kinsey (Asante Blackk) and Artillery’s (Simmie “Buddy” Sims III) album finished, DG is ready to cash in on their success. Under Black Banner Music, the project has been turned into a compilation featuring four of Lamar’s tracks mixed with Artillery’s music. Unfortunately for Wanda, DG has no intention of sharing the spotlight.

He fires her, declaring that she has no value without her artists. Seeing as no respectable label will hire a female A&R executive with no track record, Wanda is a bit screwed. Never mind that Wanda helped deliver a hit with “Back in the Hood.” DG believes he holds all the cards, but Wanda isn’t ready to fold.

Instead, she forms an unlikely alliance with Dara (Aleyse Shannon), who has her own reasons for wanting DG gone. As Dara puts it, “Only a m******ker like DG can inspire two b**ches who f**k the same man to team up.”

Sparking their rivalry, Wanda reveals that DG killed Artillery’s right-hand man, Keith (Hanad Abdi), information Leon Simmons (Isaiah John) shared with her but kept from Dara. The revelation only adds to the growing tension between the three.

Meanwhile, Lamar is recovering from his brutal beating and beginning to make amends. His brother James (Peyton Alex Smith) urges him to get his life together, telling him, “I can’t lose you too.” Lamar also reconciles with Big Daddy (Mykelti Williamson) and the rest of his family, finally finding some peace after learning the truth about his parents.

When Wanda approaches Lamar about returning to music, he agrees, setting the stage for her next move.

The great music heist

Wanda brings Lamar, James, Dara, and Artillery together for a risky scheme: Steal the master recordings from DG’s studio and use them as leverage to get Lamar and Artillery released from their contracts.

Without the masters, DG can’t manufacture or distribute the album, leaving him with a potential hit he can’t sell. It’s a dangerous gamble, especially considering DG’s violent history.

Artillery recognizes that Wanda’s plan is about more than music. She’s deliberately provoking DG, hoping to expose the gangster hiding beneath his businessman’s suit. And possibly leading him to do more than just seek revenge from behind a desk.

Lamar and James carry out the robbery, with Lamar distracting security while James sneaks inside. But when James pulls a gun and violently attacks a guard, Lamar is horrified by how far things have gone. Nevertheless, the brothers escape with the recordings.

As expected, DG is furious. Jenny Favarella (Isidora Goreshter) urges him to negotiate, reminding him that they have a murder hanging over their heads and no way to release the album without the masters…but DG has other ideas.

DG loses control

At a meeting arranged with lawyer Leonard Vance (Eric Balfour), Wanda demands that DG release her artists in exchange for the recordings. “Figure out a move or do business,” she tells him.

DG refuses to accept defeat, insisting that everything he has done has been to help Wanda. She counters that he wouldn’t be anywhere without her. Then she delivers the line designed to push him over the edge: “Do what your suit says: Just admit you lost.”

It works. DG snaps, smashing a flower vase over Wanda’s head before pulling a gun on Artillery. The confrontation confirms what Wanda already knew: DG’s gangster instincts are never far from the surface.

Jenny is furious, accusing DG of jeopardizing everything she has worked to build. She wanted to escape her father’s old-school business practices, including payola and intimidation, but DG has dragged her right back into that world. Fed up with his behavior, Jenny drops his Macroscope label.

Unfortunately, DG isn’t finished.

Leon returns to his old ways

While Wanda wages war against DG, Leon is facing his own crisis.

Earlier, he visits Big Daddy, who shares a story about his family’s violent past. As a young man, Big Daddy watched white men attack his mother and steal a necklace his father had purchased for her. He retaliated by shooting the sheriff who led the robbery, forcing his entire family to flee to California. Big Daddy insists that protecting family and what is rightfully theirs sometimes requires violence, and he has never lost sleep over what happened.

It’s a lesson Leon takes to heart. Soon, the plan is in action, with Dara as bait in a trap for DG. Walking down a dark alley, DG and his muscle follow her, ready to attack. Leon emerges from hiding and shoots DG’s associate. Artillery then holds DG at gunpoint.

Leon takes DG to Tino’s, where soon, DG’s screams echo through the building; Leon leaves him to the wolves. His fate isn’t explicitly shown, but things certainly don’t look good for the soon-to-be former record executive. As DG’s screams fill the night, Dara and Leon decide to part ways as well.

Wanda wins, but loses Leon

With DG out of the picture, Wanda visits Leon at his legal clinic, where he is packing up the last of his belongings. His dream of helping the community is over, and he knows exactly who helped destroy it.

Leon accuses Wanda of manipulating everyone, deliberately provoking DG and using Dara to force his hand. In his eyes, Wanda orchestrated the violence while pretending she had no control over the consequences. Wanda pushes back. Why is she the villain when DG, Jenny, and Dara all played their parts? Why is it wrong for her to want something more for herself? Leon has had enough, though.

When Wanda admits that she doesn’t want to be alone, she delivers a heartbreaking realization: “I guess it’s better than being invisible.” She walks away, leaving Leon alone in his empty clinic. In one of the finale’s most telling moments, Leon takes a gun from his desk before leaving the building. All that remains is a framed photograph of Cissy Saint (Michael Hyatt), the woman who inspired his dream of making a difference. After everything he has done to escape his past, Leon appears to be heading right back into it.

Is Wanda finally getting everything she wanted?

Wanda’s final stop is Jenny’s office, where the two women have one last showdown. Jenny has already killed Wanda’s deals with DJ Block, but Wanda isn’t worried. She knows the album is going to be a hit, and Jenny risks missing out on one of the biggest opportunities in music. When Wanda demands an offer, Jenny responds, “My offer is for you to go f**k yourself.”

“Keep underestimating me,” Wanda fires back. “Call me when you are ready to make a deal.” Wanda then reunites with her cousin Lamar, declaring, “It’s all us now.” But even Lamar is beginning to question her methods. He wants to know whether she anticipated all the violence that followed her plan. After defending her for so long, he considers their debts settled.

Wanda doesn’t argue. Instead of joining Lamar and his family, she walks away alone. As Gerty (Nicki Micheaux) gathers the family for a photograph, Wanda is noticeably absent. She has her artists, her ambition, and potentially a bright future in the music industry, but the people who once stood beside her are slipping away.

As “The Next Episode” plays over the finale’s closing moments, Wanda’s instincts about the future of music seem to be right on the money. The question now is whether reaching the top will be worth it if there’s nobody left to celebrate with her.
