‘The Amazing Race’ Recap: Doug & Dylan Are Saved by One Team’s Direction Snafu

The October 14 episode of The Amazing Race picked up right after last week’s cliffhanger, with Doug Matter and Dylan Matter racing against Jody Rebhun and Jenn Naso to the Pit Stop. It was quite a comeback for Jody and Jenn, who had previously fallen very far behind during the Roadblock.

It was Doug and Dylan who got to the mat in 10th place, though, which meant that Jody and Jenn were eliminated. From there, the race continued in Morocco, and the teams started the next leg on an almost level playing field. They left in the order they arrived at the previous Pit Stop, but with only two minutes between each departure.

The remaining 10 pairs had to take taxis to a crowded, open-air leather workshop, where they had to complete a “scramble” (three different tasks), before racing to the next Pit Stop. Only four Express Passes were left in play, along with Saran Dunmore and Dafina Dunmore’s Roadside Assistance advantage.

What was the Roadblock in Episode 4?

Of the three tasks, one was a Roadblock that could only be completed by one member of each team. It was called Slipper Search and required the team member to find an exact match to a pair of slippers within the crowded stalls at the market.

Ann-Marie Tejcek and Riley Tejcek agreed to work with Anuar Tager and Andrea Tager Ballesca throughout the scramble. However, when Andrea completed the Roadblock first, she didn’t want to wait around for the other team and urged her dad to move on.

Dafina and Saran used the Roadside Assistance advantage, which is only available until Leg 5, at this Roadblock. This allowed both of them to work on the task, and it paid off, as their search for the slipper was quick.

Meanwhile, Cody Langlois and Jaime Tribo and Conner Wilson and Garrett McGuire took a while to finish the Slipper Search, but they both completed the task before Doug and Dylan even got there.

What was the Detour in Episode 4?

The other two tasks in the scramble were Detours. One was called Rug Run, which required the teams to carry a nine-foot rug through the market and deliver it to a rooftop. The other was Dye & Dry, where they had to correctly dye three bundles of yarn.

The only two teams to do Rug Run first were Daisha Wilks and Dalton Hamby and Michelle Rozalski Patterson and Matt Patterson, while all the others did Dye & Dry first.

There were some cracks in the alliance between the all-female teams on this leg. Ali Krieger and Joanna Lohman and Ann-Marie and Riley left Saran and Dafina behind when they all set off for Rug Run, and when Riley couldn’t keep up with the pro soccer players, Ali and Joanna didn’t stick around to wait for her and her mom.

Meanwhile, Anuar and Andrea gave Ann-Marie and Riley some pointers at Dye & Dry after previously leaving them at Slipper Search.

Dylan and Doug caught up to Cody and Jaime at Dye & Dry, and although the grandfather/grandson team were still the last to leave that task, they made up some time by completing it on their first attempt.

Who used the Express Pass in Episode 4?

No teams used Express Passes on this leg, which means Ann-Marie/Riley, Ali/Joanna, Garrett/Conner, and Michelle/Matt still have theirs to use. The Express Passes will work for two more legs, and no two teams can use one on the same task.

Cody and Jaime were the last team to the Pit Stop. After completing Rug Run, they got lost, which allowed Doug and Dylan to pull ahead and meet Phil Keoghan at the mat before them.
