Sister Wives star Meri Brown stuck by her former husband, polygamist Kody Brown, for years despite knowing their relationship was doomed.
Meri opened up about the situation on Sunday’s (October 25) episode of the TLC reality series. Speaking with her fellow former sister-wife, Christine Brown Woolley, Meri admitted that she had “a lot of hope” for a “new beginning” with Kody because “he talked about that.”
However, things changed when Kody and Meri filed to end their union in 2014 so he could legally marry his fourth wife, Robyn Brown, and adopt her three children. “Things haven’t been working in mine and Kody’s relationship for a really long time,” Meri said in a confessional, per EOnline.
After years of Kody promising a “new beginning,” Meri eventually realized nothing would change. “I got to the point that I was pretty confident that it was never going to work out and he was waiting for me to say something about it so that he could be the innocent party,” she told Christine. “And so I got a little bit stubborn and just stuck around.”
Meri didn’t want to be the one to end the relationship and let Kody claim innocence. “I wanted him to say it,” she said. “Like he’d been saying it everywhere else, but never to me. And I got to the point that I’m like, ‘I will be the thorn in your side or the knife in your kidney,’ or whatever.”
“I knew for a fact that he was just trying to push me out,” Meri added. “And if I was the one who left first, then he could throw up his hands and be like, ‘See, she’s the one who left. I’m all innocent in this situation.’ And I was not going to let him be innocent in this situation. Sorry, I wasn’t.”
That changed after Christine and Kody’s second wife, Janelle Brown, announced they were leaving the plural marriage in 2021 and 2022, respectively. Meri, who shares 31-year-old Leon with Kody, eventually left the arrangement too.
Meri is now seeing a new man, Ron, though the pair are taking things slow and not rushing into a romantic relationship. However, that hasn’t stopped Meri from receiving several marriage proposals from potential suitors.
“There’s been a couple of times since I’ve been dating that people have reached out to me on the socials, basically saying, ‘Hey, we’d love to have you in our family,'” the 55-year-old said on Sunday’s episode. “I’ve had families reach out to me—like a wife, saying that her and her husband are looking and would be interested. I’ve had a man who said he and his wife really like me.”
Meri claimed she gets “proposted to” on a “weekly basis,” describing it as “the weirdest thing.”
