‘Jeopardy!’ Champ Takes Gamble on Taylor Sheridan Question — Did it Pay Off?
Spoiler Alert
With Anthony Cantor going for his fifth Jeopardy! game and a shot at the Tournament of Champions, he couldn’t afford to take a risk, but he did. Was it worth it? Find out if the television and podcast producer won again.
Cantor, from Toronto, Ontario, Canada, entered his fifth game with a four-day total of $77,199. On October 23, he played against Shannon Leigh Godwin, from Oakland, California, and Ajin Tae, from New York, New York. Warning: Spoilers for the Friday, October 23, episode of Jeopardy! ahead!
Godwin, an interior designer, took the lead quickly and maintained it through both rounds. Cantor couldn’t come up with a correct response for the final Daily Double, which allowed Godwin to stay in the lead.
At the end of the Double Jeopardy round, Godwin had the lead with $12,000. Cantor was in second place with $8,000. Tae, a trader, had $3,200.
The category for Final Jeopardy was “Pulitzer Prize-Winning Fiction.” The clue read, “Inspired by the story to tell similar ones, Taylor Sheridan wrote the foreword to the 40th anniversary edition of this novel.”
Only one of the game show contestants had the correct response. Tae answered “What is On the Road?” which was wrong. He wagered $3,000, leaving him with $200.
Cantor did not have a response. He wagered $0, giving him a final total of $8,000. Cantor’s wager would have been perfect if Godwin had the wrong answer. However, Godwin had the correct response of “What is The Lonesome Dove?” She wagered $4,001, making her final total $16,001.
Sheridan made a name for himself as a writer, producer, director, and actor, best known for cocreating the hit series Yellowstone and developing its many spinoffs. His other television credits include Mayor of Kingstown, Landman, Tulsa King, and more.
With that correct answer, Godwin became the new winner. Cantor did not guarantee himself a spot in the TOC, but with four wins, he may still qualify if there aren’t enough five-game winners. Godwin will return on Monday for her second game.
“4-game curse strikes again. At this point, when will we see a 5-game champ lol,” a Reddit user said.
“Although we haven’t seen a single 5-time champ this season, and the 4-day curse has seemed to have made a comeback, we shouldn’t jump the gun and assume this season’s gonna suck,” one last fan said.
Many fans said on another thread that the final answer was easy if you know who Taylor Sheridan is. Did you know the final clue? Let us know in the comments.
