Jeopardy Champion Anthony Cantor Goes for Threepeat — Did He Do It?
Spoiler Alert
There have only been a handful of multi-day Jeopardy! champions this season. No one has made it to the post-season as of yet. Find out if the current champion went for a three-peat or if his reign ended.
Anthony Cantor, from Toronto, Ontario, Canada, returned for his third game on October 21. The television and podcast producer entered with a two-day total of $42,401. On Thursday, he played against Sam Robison, from Birmingham, Alabama, and Kayla Patel, from Mount Laurel, New Jersey. Warning: Spoilers for the Wednesday, October 21, episode of Jeopardy! ahead!
Robison, a teacher, broke the five-in-a-row Daily Double losing streak. He correctly answered the final DD of the game. However, that didn’t allow him to surpass Cantor by the end of the game.
At the end of the Double Jeopardy round, Cantor had $14,600. Robison was in second place with $6,400. Patel had $600.
The category for Final Jeopardy was “Ancient Artifacts.” The clue read, “Discovered in 1974, these artifacts were armed with real weapons & none of the 7,000+ figures were the same.”
The correct response was “What are the Terracotta Army?” Two of the game show contestants had the correct response, while one contestant had half of the correct response.
Both Patel, a recent graduate from the University of Pennsylvania, and Robison had the correct response. Patel wagered $500, giving her $1,100. Robison’s wager was $1,400, making his final total $7,800.
Cantor’s response was “What are the terracotta warriors?” Jeopardy! ruled his response correct. He wagered $1,799, making his final total $16,399 and his three-day total $58,500. Cantor will return on Thursday for his fourth game. Will he qualify for the Tournament of Champions?
Fans reacted to the Final Jeopardy clue, and many said it was very easy to guess. “This was an insta-get for me. I couldn’t think of anything else that it could possibly be,” a Reddit user said.
“I couldn’t either, hence the lack of wrong answer options,” a fan replied.
“Yeah, this was an instaget for me. The sheer number of figures mixed with weapons was pretty pointed,” a third added.
“Easiest FJ in a while,” one last fan said.
