Seth Meyers has weighed in on Donald Trump‘s recent obsession with men’s bodies, saying the president has “always valued surface over substance.”
“So we’re learning a lot about how the president deals with the pressure of an intense midterm election,” Meyers said on Thursday’s (October 22) Late Night. “For example, we’re learning that he has a bizarre fixation with men’s physiques, whether it’s the candidates he’s campaigning with or just some random dudes in the crowd.”
The host aired a montage of Trump praising the bodies of various male Republican candidates, referring to them as “handsome, “beautiful,” and “strong.” This comes days after the president said he was checking out Sen. Jon Husted’s (R-Ohio) ass.
“This is a sign of how bad things are going for Trump. The only issue he has left to campaign on is, ‘Me likey what I see,'” Meyers said before noting that Trump even stopped mid-speech to “look for the so-called Oklahoma studs that he’d seen on TV before the rally.”
“Where are those guys?” Trump asked. “I hope they’re not stuck outside. Where are they? Where? We gotta get them. Where are they? You can’t miss ’em, big, strong, handsome Oklahoma studs. Where are you? Come up here. I love these guys. Wow.”
Meyers compared the president to “a blindfolded bachelorette at a strip club,” mimicking, “‘Where are the studs? Someone bring me the studs. I got a purse full of dollars and a hankering for grade A Oklahoma beef. Come to mama, studs!'”
On a more serious note, Meyers theorized that Trump’s recent fixation on the male physique is because he’s “always valued surface over substance. He doesn’t know or care about the issues. He just knows marketing. He cares about looks. That’s it.”
The comedian said that is “clearly what’s going on in Ohio” with Husted, adding that Trump could be talking about issues that affect Ohio voters, like housing and healthcare. “But he doesn’t know anything about that stuff, so instead, when he campaigns for Husted, he says stuff like this…”
Meyers then aired various clips of Trump talking about Husted’s body. In one clip, the president said, “I examined his ass. And then I looked at his shoulders. I looked at his feet. I looked at his hand. I looked at his jawline. Studied him. He’s got a jawline.”
“Why are you so weird?” Meyers responded. “And who goes ass, feet, shoulders, hand, jawline? Buddy, nobody cares if you can bounce a quarter off Jon Husted’s ass because, thanks to inflation, that quarter is f***ing worthless!”
