‘Boston Blue’ Sneak Peek: Danny Reagan Considers a Promotion in Season 2 Premiere
As reluctant as he was to climb the NYPD ladder in Blue Bloods, Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg) is preparing for a change in Boston Blue Season 2, premiering Friday, October 9, on CBS. In the TV Insider exclusive clip from the episode (above), Boston Police superintendent Sarah Silver (Maggie Lawson) offers Danny a promotion to Sergeant Detective after he “aced your sergeant’s exam first try.” But he isn’t sure he wants the job.
“I was raised by two commissioners, so being afraid to not pass the exam was never why I didn’t take the test,” Danny tells Sarah, sister of his BPD partner, Lena Silver (Sonequa Martin-Green). “It was really because I needed proper motivation.”
That motivation would be his son, Sean (Mika Amonsen), who’s in his second year as a Boston cop in the second season.

“Danny, there’s a promotion available. It is yours if you want it,” Sarah tells Danny above. “Sergeant Detective in the major case unit.” Danny is hesitant to say yes.
“Yeah, that’s pretty incredible. Did you talk to Lena about this?” he asks.
Sarah thought that Danny took the exam because he was interested in taking on more responsibility. After years of avoiding moving up at the NYPD on Blue Bloods, the change of scenery, plus Sean’s career aspirations, may inspire Danny to want more as well.
But Danny also knows that he’s the new guy at the BPD and Lena’s been serving this city much longer than he has. He’s clearly worried about how Lena would take this news, if she doesn’t know about it already. That’s when he gets called in by his partner.
“It’s Lena. We caught a homicide,” Danny tells Sarah.
The killer they’re hunting in the Boston Blue Season 2 premiere is a Boston Strangler copycat killer. Grandpa Henry Reagan (Len Cariou) will help on the case, and Lena will also get a lead on the mysterious attack on Rodgers from the Season 1 finale. Find out if Danny takes the promotion when Boston Blue Season 2 returns.
