Kimmel Ridicules Trump’s Offer to Help Russia Amid Plague Outbreak
What To Know
- Jimmy Kimmel questioned President Trump’s offer to help Russia with a plague outbreak.
- He cited the rise of diseases like flu, measles, and typhus in the U.S. since Trump’s return to office.
- ‘The gang who brought polio back is on the case,’ Kimmel quipped.
Jimmy Kimmel questioned whether President Donald Trump is the right person to offer help to Russia amid a plague outbreak in Siberia, pointing to the rising number of diseases and infections reported in the U.S. since Trump returned to office.
The late-night host returned to Los Angeles for Monday’s (October 5) edition of Jimmy Kimmel Live! following last week’s Brooklyn residency. “We took 200 members of our staff to Brooklyn, and I’m pleased to announce that only half of them came back with the flu,” Kimmel said.
“Everyone is out sick,” he continued. “Although I guess we’re lucky to just have the flu. You know, today the governor of New York declared a state disaster emergency because of a measles outbreak there. So now we’ve got the flu, we’ve got measles, we’ve got rabies, we’ve got West Nile virus, we have flea-borne typhus, all on the rise.”
“And now we are hearing that in Russia there has been at least one death from a suspected case of the plague, the pneumonic plague,” Kimmel added, noting how 200 people are in quarantine.
He joked, “The White House says they are monitoring the situation and assessing options to figure out if there is any way they can make money off of it.”
Kimmel then played a clip of Trump talking to reporters about the plague outbreak, during which the president said, “We’ll help them.”
“Well, everybody, they’ll help,” the comedian responded. “No worries. The gang who brought polio back is on the case.”
Kimmel went on to say, “So, this outbreak, which is scary, is reported to have originated with a lab leak at the Anti-Plague Institute of Siberia. Which sounds like the plot of one of those horror movies you can only get on Tubi.”
He ended the section by saying, “I’m just glad that at times like these we have a president who is a doctor and also Jesus,” referencing one of the many AI-generated images of himself that Trump has posted on social media.
