Nancy Guthrie Sheriff Drops Big News About Possible New Ransom Note

As the Nancy Guthrie investigation approaches its eighth month, with no update on her whereabouts or potential suspects, police are looking into a “new possible ransom note” connected to the disappearance.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos released a statement on social media on Monday (September 28), saying, “The PCSD/FBI Guthrie Task Force was recently made aware of a new possible ransom note related to the Nancy Guthrie investigation.”

“Investigators are also aware of social media comments regarding the note and are looking further into the information to determine its credibility,” Nanos added.

No further details were provided on the note’s contents, when it was sent, or who it was addressed to. Nanos referenced social media chatter about the note but didn’t go into specifics.

Nancy, the 84-year-old mother of Today’s Savannah Guthrie, went missing on February 1, when police believe she was abducted from her Tucson, Arizona, home. Investigators have released doorbell camera footage of a masked suspect and sent DNA for testing at the FBI lab in Quantico, but no suspects have been named publicly.

In July, the PCSD released two letters sent to the Guthrie family earlier in the investigation. The first note demanded millions in the cryptocurrency Bitcoin for the return of Nancy, while the second note claimed that Nancy had “perished” and was “buried in nature.”

At the time, Nanos said he hoped releasing the notes would help jog somebody’s memory. “We just saw what was being said, and we felt like we needed to put something out that’s really accurate, and this was the time,” he stated.

“Investigators felt like there’s a number of pieces of information in these notes that it just might jog someone to say, ‘I’ve heard that,’ or the wording, the style of the writing,” Nanos continued. “It might jog somebody to think about who would’ve written this, how was this done?”

He concluded, “My investigators, we look at it, and clearly there’s things in there that are very concerning to our investigative team. So we hope that by releasing the actual note we’ll get some response from the community.”

Despite releasing the two notes in July, there have been no breakthroughs in the case. However, Nanos made it clear to the Wall Street Journal that the investigation is ongoing, stating, “This case is not cold.”
