’60 Minutes’: Patrick Clancy Breaks Silence on Lindsay’s Trial

Patrick Clancy broke his silence on 60 Minutes for the first time since his ex-wife Lindsay Clancy‘s murder case ended in a mistrial.

On September 4, a mistrial was declared in the case of Lindsay, who faced three first-degree murder counts for the January 2023 deaths of her children, Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months.

Patrick spoke out against conspiracy theories and social media speculation that he was the one who killed the kids, during an interview with CBS journalist Ross Douthat that aired on Sunday, September 20.

“It’s deeply harmful to the legacy of my children,” Patrick said. “It is a huge distraction from what really matters here, which is perinatal mental health. And it’s done real harm to real people — myself included, but also others.”

He added, “It’s painful to see, and it makes it difficult to be in public. And it’s possible that some of those people, after seeing lie after lie after lie, start to believe it. And that’s what we’re left with.”

Additionally, Patrick tearfully recalled thinking that Callan might pull through following his injuries.

“I remember that night, I really thought there was a chance that Callan would live,” he admitted. “And I remember just thinking, ‘Just give me one — just give me one kid, and I would raise him as best as I could. And I’ll give him the best life I possibly could, and tell him about his brother and sister. And I was holding out hope for that.”

However, when Patrick arrived at the hospital, he soon learned that Callan’s prognosis was not good.

“I’m so grateful for those four days that I had with him,” he said. “And I’m so grateful that he hung on… I said I’m so sorry. And I got to hold him and I got to lay down next to him. And he died in my arms.”

Patrick also opened up about his decision to forgive Lindsay, pointing to her postpartum psychosis.

“I saw headlines that said ‘killer mom’ and ‘baby murderer,’ ‘monster’ — and none of them were accurate,” he explained. “I believe that it was her mental illness that caused that… And I think when it comes to forgiveness, I also felt that if I didn’t get there, I would be eaten up inside forever.”

When Douthat inquired whether Patrick asked Lindsay about why she killed the kids, Patrick replied, “I asked her if she remembered it. She said it was like a dream, and that she remembered it much in the way you’d remember a dream after waking up.”

Of whether he felt like he failed or did the best he could, Patrick added, “I think I did the best I could with what I had at the time. And I live with the outcome. I live with it every day.”

On January 4, 2023, Patrick found their three kids strangled with exercise bands in their Duxbury, Massachusetts, home, after returning from running errands. He also discovered that Lindsay had cut her wrists and throat and jumped out of a second-story window; she is now paralyzed from the waist down.

Today, Patrick is remarried to Dr. Rachel Danis, a reproductive endocrinologist and infertility specialist based in New York City.

A status hearing is scheduled for September 29, when prosecutors are expected to announce whether they intend to retry with a new jury.
