Dylan Dreyer Shares Personal Family Reason for ‘Today’ Absence

Dylan Dreyer had a fun reason for skipping Today‘s Tuesday, September 1, episode.

The meteorologist kicked off her week on the NBC morning show on Monday, August 31, filling in for Al Roker. Weekend Today‘s Angie Lassman stepped in for both Roker and Dreyer on Tuesday before Dreyer returned to Studio 1A on Wednesday, September 2.

Though the reason for her absence wasn’t shared on air, Dreyer revealed on Instagram that she took the day off for a fun parenting moment. “And they’re back!!!” she wrote alongside photos of her sons — Calvin, Oliver, and Rusty — on their first day of school.

The photos showed the three boys hugging and smiling for the camera, sporting their back-to-school looks and backpacks. Fans gushed over the adorable photos in the post’s comments, with one user writing, “Look those bright white shoes and socks. Have a great year kids!!”

Another added, “Enjoy them. You will turn around and they will be off to college. Time passes too fast.” Someone else shared, “As a Mom of 3 boys, savor every moment. Time is fleeting. They are so adorable. Ollie is your twin.”

A different person posted, “Dylan, you are such an amazing Mom to your boys.” A separate commenter stated, “Great pictures of such happy boys! Have a great school year, Cal, Ollie and Rusty!!!! Dylan, enjoy all of these years!! They grow up way too fast!”

Dreyer shares her kids with her estranged husband, Brian Fichera. Dreyer announced in July 2025 that the pair had quietly separated a few months prior, and she officially filed for divorce in March.

While guest-hosting Today With Jenna & Sheinelle last month, Dreyer revealed that she and her kids went on summer vacation with Fichera’s family. “The big question was, ‘What’s this year gonna be?’ Right? Things have changed a little bit. The thing is, it’s booked two years in advance, so sometimes schedules don’t work out,” she explained on August 3, noting that Fichera and some of his relatives were unable to attend the trip. “Family is family, and to me — yes, it was a family I married into, but it’s a family I’m very close with.”

The vacation coincided with her birthday. “This week every year, we go down to Turks and Caicos. So, I was down there celebrating. I spent the day on the plane, flying back,” she said on the third hour of Today’s August 3 episode. “It was so great. The weather is always amazing. It’s just a big family vacation we go on every year.”

Dreyer shared several snaps from the tropical trip via Instagram at the time. “Hate to leave paradise on my birthday but it’s time to get back to reality,” she captioned the August 2 upload. “Another year, another amazing annual family vacation! I’m so blessed to share wonderful memories with some of my favorite people!”
