Savannah Guthrie is honoring one of Today‘s most inspirational guests after their death.
On Monday, October 5, Guthrie took to Instagram to pay tribute to internet personality Brooke Eby, who died on October 1 at the age of 37 following a battle with ALS. “Lovely Brooke, you will be missed,” she wrote alongside a clip of her news report about Eby’s death that aired on Today earlier that day. Over the video, she wrote, “Rest in peace, lovely Brooke.”
During Monday’s episode of the NBC morning show, Guthrie “took a moment” to honor Eby while informing viewers on the latest news. “Our friend Brooke Eby passed away on October 1 after waging a remarkable battle against ALS. It was remarkable for the way she bore that devastating diagnosis that she received at the age of 33,” the host stated. “She did it with courage and openness and humor. She was determined to share every aspect of her journey. The videos she posted on social media were often hilarious and garnered her a devoted following of millions.”
Guthrie went on to air a clip from her 2023 Today interview with Eby, during which she asked the social media star, “Brooke, you are the most cheerful person I can imagine who has such a serious diagnosis. What gives you that joie de vivre, this joy?”
Eby replied, “Levity is my superpower, and it’s really how I’m bringing my story to the world. I’m trying to use humor and really let ALS be heard.”

Back in Today‘s Studio 1A, Guthrie went on to state, “Even as her body began to fail her, she kept up her fight, kept posting, yes, with that trademark humor and spirit. She also created ALS Together, a community for others living with the disease. Her dad, Cliff, told us, ‘Her efforts didn’t find a cure for the next Brooke, but she wounded the ALS monster. We are so grateful to all her followers and supporters.’ Brooke Eby was 37 years old, and she will be missed.”
Her co-anchor, Craig Melvin, agreed, adding, “I remember that conversation you did with her from a few years ago. She was quite the inspiration.”
Fans flooded Guthrie’s post with their own memories of Eby, with one user writing, “As a Hospice Chaplain for 15 years, I cared for several ALS Patients. My heart goes out to Brooke, her family and all who love her, for comfort and peace. ALS is a heartbreaking disease, and Brooke’s ability to share her entire journey, with humor and levity speaks so loudly for her strength. Rest in peace, dear woman, and thank you for your courage.”
Another said, “Thank you, Savannah, for carrying this sad, sad news to the masses. Not only was I a devoted follower of Brooke’s but I am the daughter of a parent taken by bulbar onset ALS.”
The post was one of several Today segments Guthrie has shared via her Instagram page in recent months. Earlier this year, Savannah primarily used her social media to advocate for her missing mother, Nancy Guthrie, after her February abduction from her Arizona home. Authorities have not named any suspects as the investigation continues.
