Dylan Dreyer is sharing new details about her relationship with her estranged husband, Brian Fichera, nearly one year after announcing their separation.

Back in July 2025, the Today meteorologist broke news of the pair’s split via Instagram, revealing they had actually called it quits a few months earlier. “We began as friends, and we will remain the closest of friends,” she wrote at the time. “Most importantly, we will continue to co-parent our three wonderful boys together with nothing but love and respect for one another.”

The former couple shares three sons — Calvin, Oliver, and Rusty. News broke in March that Dryer had officially filed for divorce.

In an interview with Parents published on Wednesday, June 24, Dreyer said it has been a “priority” for her and Fichera to approach co-parenting with joy and mutual respect. “I think our relationship is better with us not being married. We’re both the same people we always were, but without the things that went wrong in our relationship,” she explained. “And if you remove those from the relationship, there’s really nothing to fight over. If you think about your friendships, you don’t really fight unless something big happens between you two. So now it’s just easy, and I want our boys to see that.”

Dreyer said she and Fichera have instilled in their kids that they love them just as much now that they are separated as they did when they were married. “There’s still all that fun. There’s laughter. There’s all the good things when you take out whatever any couple is fighting about,” she stated. “For us, it’s what works, and the boys don’t see fighting. They see nothing but love.”

Dreyer told the outlet that she and Fichera regularly attend their sons’ events together, including cheering them on from the sidelines at baseball games. “Brian and myself are there for them a hundred percent. Yes, it’s a little bit different, but we are both always there for them,” she gushed.

Dreyer also addressed some struggles that come with her and Fichera’s new relationship dynamic. “I think the older generation will say ‘stay together for the kids.’ But my situation is ‘separate for the kids’ because they see us happier, they see us more lighthearted, and they see joy whenever we are there to celebrate the kids,” she said. “At the end of the game, we go our separate ways, and they see that it’s fine, because we’ll come together again the next day.”

She continued, “There was always tension in the house. Kids pick up on that. You always wonder, ‘Well, whose side do you take?’ Even now it’s like, well, who do I invite over for Christmas? My parents are fine, but I’d rather them not be in the same room together.”

Dreyer recalled the parenting breakthrough she had during a recent episode of her podcast, The Parent Chat, with actress Julie Bowen. The Modern Family alum — who shares three sons with her ex-husband, Scott Phillips — told Dreyer that her kids can’t believe the two were ever married.

“I’m excited for my kids to hopefully have that same sentiment, and it’s funny to think we were ever married. I worry that I’m breaking their hearts, I worry I’m ruining them for the future,” Dreyer admitted. “Julie’s advice was that they’re going to be fine as long as we keep it happy and joyful and they’re surrounded by love. Her kids are thriving, so it was really nice to get that glimpse into the future and know that I’m not messing up, I’m doing what’s best for them, and it does end up working out.”
