Rob Lowe Reveals Idea to Bring ‘9-1-1: Lone Star’s Owen to ‘Nashville’
Exclusive
What To Know
- Rob Lowe is open to reprising his role as Owen Strand from 9-1-1: Lone Star in the franchise.
- The Floor host has a very specific idea in mind.
- Previously, 9-1-1: Nashville showrunner Rashad Raisani shared his hope to bring some of his Lone Star characters over.
Back when 9-1-1: Lone Star ended in February 2025, Rob Lowe was open to returning as Owen Strand, last seen working in New York as chief, in the franchise. And so when TV Insider caught up with him recently about his ongoing Fox game show, The Floor, we had to find out if that’s still the case.
“I mean, I never say never. I never say never. And I would be open to anything as long as it is not trying to be a cheaper, low-budget knockoff of what we worked so hard to establish. I think we leave a legacy, not to put too fine a point on it, on storytelling, big spectacle, big cast, great actors, stars, and if there’s an appetite for that that still exists, I’m down,” he told us when the series finale aired.
Now, with 9-1-1 going into its 10th season and the new spinoff, 9-1-1: Nashville, entering its second, he’s not only still up for stepping into Owen Strand’s shoes again, but he also knows exactly how he wants it to play out (specific enough that the matter of story credit even comes up).

Disney/Jake Giles Netter
“OK, so here’s how it goes down. I’ve been thinking about this. They would have to woo me, but I’m easily wooed. Chad Lowe [his brother, who also played his half-brother on Lone Star], who is directing most of them now, needs to direct it, and they need to shoot it at an amazing golf course because Chris O’Donnell [Captain Don Hart on Nashville] and I are huge golf fans, so it has to be around golf, and of course, maybe there’s a flash flood on the golf course. Or maybe there’s a lightning strike that lights the locker room on fire.”
Of course, Owen’s not the only Strand who could show up on Nashville. Showrunner Rashad Raisani, who also headed Lone Star, told us that he’d love to bring Owen’s son T.K. (Ronen Rubinstein) and his husband Carlos (Rafael Silva) over.
“There’s huge appetite from me personally [in] maybe starting to bring some of the Tarlos or Lone Star people or some of those, I think, beloved characters, that they can visit, too, and we can just see how they’re doing,” he said in May.
Should he bring any characters back, “ideally” they’d be part of both calls and personal storylines. “The easiest one at the moment is, and I mean, this is just [me thinking], Carlos coming in as a Texas Ranger and TK with him just visiting town because Carlos is consulting on a case,” Raisani shared. “It’s probably the easiest way for us to have it be organic. But I would love [if] we could maybe have the rest of the crew come and work a fire together or something like that. If it feels organic, then we will find a way to make it organic. So I’m open to all possibilities, put it that way.”
Would you want to see Rob Lowe bring Owen Strand to 9-1-1: Nashville? Let us know in the comments section below.

I was upset they took lone star 911 off the air I think they need to bring the show back with all the characters. I didn’t just like Owen but everyone.
-
L
I have never watch 911 Nashville accept for the first 15 minutes of the first episode and it was trying to do the whole Owen tk thing father son no way I want the 911 with the whole cast its upsetting they stopped that one!!!

S
I loved lonestar. Yes please bring back rob lowe and his son and sons husband. They were all such important part of the show. I miss all 3 of them. Please bring them back.
-
M
Nashville is okay but it can’t compete with the original 9-1-1 or Lonestar. I don’t understand why they took Lonestar off to make Nashville. Lonestar was a better show and I miss that cast.
-
M
Because they were on 2 different channels.
-
-
G
How about just bring back Lonestar. It’s infinitely better than Nashville and it’s “soapy” feel.
-
S
Yes!!!!! This!!!!
-
-
W
I think this is an organic way to incorporate everything we all loved about the show! I can’t speak for everyone, but I can speak for myself. I love and MISS MY SHOWS!!!!!
-
C
I loved 911 Lone Star... it would be great to bring part of the cast to the new show.
-
N
As a dedicated watcher of both the original 9-1-1 and Lonestar, Nashville seems like a very cheap imitation.
-
K
I totally agree. I gave up watching Nashville because it's pants! Lone Star was FAR superior in every way. I wish they'd just sack off Nashville and bring Lone Star back.
-
-
J
I'd like to see the old lone star crew battle against LA and Nashville at the firefighter games!!
-
S
That would be fun!
-
-
H
“I mean, I never say never. I never say never. And I would be open to anything as long as it is not trying to be a cheaper, low-budget knockoff of what we worked so hard to establish.
That’s exactly what Nashville is a cheap knockoff of Lone Star, a captain with his son working with him. One reason I don’t watch, plus was like a soap opera with the women.
-
G
NOT a fan of 911 Nashville. You'd have to sell it very hard to get me to watch that travesty.
-
S
Sarah
I love 911 Nashville, I'm sorry that you don't have better taste.
-
-
C
I personally miss 911 Lonestar because I love Rob Lowe & he is better than anyone on the new show! Please bring it back!
-
C
They should have brought Paul and Marjan to the firefighter games crossover with 9-1-1 and 9-1-1: Nashville. You can’t tell me the #FireFox just skipped out on those games.
-
S
I loved Lone Star! Bring it back please. Nashville is more like a soap. Too much drama
-
L
I loved Rob Lowe in 911 LoneStar. I was upset when it ended. Please bring the whole cast back. Especially Rob Lowe.
-
R
Yes to The Strands and Taylor's 3rd-oldest gospel singing cop brother (Luke James both The Chi & Wanted The Musical), will be next in the later episodes of the Nashville offshoot's follow-up season in the spring of 2027! 💖
-
L
💯% bring Rob Lowe to Nashville with TK and his husband, love all of them!!
-
T
I want the whole show back!! COME ON FOX! WHAT UP????
-
A
I tried Nashville but those Grand Ole Opry accents killed it for me. I’ll just stick with the original, thanks.
-
S
Nashville 911 just did not do it for me. I Just cannot watch it
-

I thought Lonestar was much better than Nashville. I really liked Chris O’Donnell in NCIS LA, but in the Nashville show his role just isn't cutting it. I really miss Rob Lowe in 911 Lone Star. In fact, I miss all the characters from that show. I feel like the entire show was better than Nashville in so many ways.
Bringing some or all of the cast from 911 Lone Star to Nashville would be nice to see; but I would love to see the entire show 911 Lone Star come back on to the air, instead. Crossovers between the two would be cool at that time then.
-
J
I would love to see Owen Strand on 9-1-1 Nashville with the rest of the cast from 9-1-1 Lone Star and his son with his son's husband and I would love to have them do a cross over with all of the 9-1-1 shows. I miss 9-1-1 Lone Star. I wish they would bring 9-1-1 Lone Star back to television, that would be awesome.
-
T
You know to many shows sometimes run so long it kind of loses its appeal, so while I definitely wouldn't mind seeing the action between visiting firefighters from lonestar, I really like the fresh crew from Nashville, but Chris O'Donnell and Rob lowe together would be an awesome episode
-
S
I don't think the cast of Nashville is the problem. It's the writers. They are treating Nashville too much like a soap opera. And wouldn't that episode be great? I'd watch it!!
-
-
G
I don't know why in the h they canceled 9-1-1 Lonestar in the first place. It was so good and it had a lot of veiwer comments saying the same. That was one of the best on TV to date. It seems they always cancel great shows for wharever crazy reason then replace with junk shows. Anyway, I would Love to have Strand's roll reprise the in Nashville series with some of the original casts.
-
G
Forgot to say, I I start watching 911 Nashville but it didn't have that grab you type of feeling. It's OK though, watchable. I give it 6 out of 10 stars. I'd rather they bring back the original Lonestar.
-
-
P
Yes Rob Lowe was great as Owen Strand!! Blending in some of the characters would be a big plus. It was so disappointing to lose 9-1-1 Lonestar.
-
J
I enjoyed Lone Star more than the other 9 1 1 series. I would like to see them come back! With the entire staff. That may not be possible at this point but I would love it.
-
M
Yes, please bring Owen Strand back. Why not just bring Lone Star back all together. I love love that cast my heart was broken when they cancelled the show☹️💔
-
B
Great ideas from Rob, I love it. I miss the show, sad it ended.
-
M
I'm excited already, I was upset that Lone Star ended. I love when they do crossovers.
-
T
I don’t know why they canceled the show in the first place. Yes please bring him back with his son and son in law. TK husband can be Athena’s new partner while Owen and TK working at the 119. Maybe being Captain takes a toll on Chimney and they bring Capt. Strand to help out.
-
B
I love 911 Nashville.
I miss 911 Lone Star
So yes bring them together I believe it will be Awesome!!
-
J
I like 911 Nashville. I enjoyed 911 Lonestar I felt like there were stories that were not complete. I just don’t see how to incorporate some of the characters from Lone Star to Nashville. It would distract from the show and I think disappoint all of us- it would seem forced.
I haven’t continued to watch the original 911 since they killed Bobby. Just wasn’t the series I enjoyed. The stories were just off.
-
P
I would love to have rob lowe and other stars from 911 lone star on 911 Nashville. Was very upset when lone star was cancelled. It was a great show and I loved the whole cast especially rob lowe.
-
G
I would love for Rob Lowe to come back. I was so mad when Lone Star was gone. I was really getting into the characters. I hope you bring them all back.
-
C
Yes please!!!
-
D
Yes! I don’t know why they even ended it!
-
L
💯💯💯💯💯I absolutely love rob lowe and cast..hope to see all again!!!!🙏🎉🥳🖤👍👌☮️✌️😻🥰
-
T
It would be great seeing him again, but even better bring the Lonestar show back. I loved it.
-
9
I would love to see his character of Owen strand back on a 911 show.
-
D
Yes bring them all back
-
C
Lonestar and the original 911 are the best. Nashville is ok (and I'm a huge Chris O'Donnell fan) but it's nowhere near as good as Lonestar. I'm so sad they canceled Lonestar and I would love to see any and all of those characters back....anywhere.
-
R
Since yall decided to take Bobby from 911 , you should aless replace him with Owen . Bring him to 911
-
L
YES, YES, YES, YES!!!!
-
A
I love Lonestar I wish we could have it back
-
D
I would Love that!! Great cast!! What a Terrific idea!! Yes!!
-
J
Yes I have loved watching Rob on 911 have been a fan since I was a teenager back in the 1980's
-
S
Yes please I miss the lone star one the Nashville ones ok but I miss lone star blending both would be fun .
-
D
I would love to see a merging of the 911 shows. Bringing in some(a lot) of the cast of Lone Star, as well as the caliber of storytelling that was a hallmark of that show would be wonderful to see. It seemed to me that there was much more that could be explored on LoneStar.
-
C
Yes, bring him on. He's nice looking. He'd be a welcomed site.
-
M
Yes definitely
-
S
I would Love them all to come back!
-
T
Would love to see him come back
-
A
Yes all of the crew in one show would be perfect, I miss all of them.
-
B
Definitely. I think they should bring back 911 Lone Star or do a different spinoff. Love all the characters from lone star
-
D
Would love to see Rob Lowe play Owen again and be a part of 911 Nashville
-
A
YESSS PLEASE!!! What an awesome idea!!!!
-
T
How about Nashville expands its fire department and calls on Rob Lowe to run the new fire house and brings his whole crew to the new fire house. Then they can sort of be competitive fire houses or assist the Nashville crew from station to station.
-
Yep! 👍🏿 Owen Strand from 911: Lone Star is still alive and well for season 2 of 911: Nashville baby! 💖 As I stated above that there's 2 sides for 911: Nashville's follow-up season on ABC between Fall/winter 2026 and spring/summer 2027! 💯 Side A from Thursday, October 15th to December 17th, 2026 (episodes 1-10)! 💯 And side B from Thursday, April 29th to June 17th, 2027 (episodes 11-18)! 💯 And that's the official airing dates for 911: Nashville's sophomore season, just like the og 911's 10th season on ABC! 💯
-
P
Bring them back NOW! I need to know what is going on in their lives. Why you ever pulled it off the air is beyond
me! It was exciting, good story lines and great actors.
-
K
Nashville feels like the cheap knock off. It’s ok, but Chris O’Donnell makes a better cop anyway. I think I read somewhere that Lone Star was too expensive to keep. So instead they give us this dumb soapy sappy thing. And they never fight any fire. The only thing that could make it better is Rob Lowe!
-
S
I like Nashville and while okay with Owen Strand returning and other characters, I do not want to see TK and his husband come back. There are other characters who were much better than them.
-
S
I am a huge 911 fan! The original lost alot when they killed off Bobby! I loved Lonestar! All the characters were great! I was upset when they canceled it! I mean seriously...why? Now Nashville SUCKS!!!! The only way that show will last is if the bring in the Lonestar cast to save it! I mean really...the girl with the kite??? What were they thinking??
-
B
I would love to see them all again it would definitely help the acting on 911 Nashville
-
G
yes!!!! I dont watch Nashville because they took off Lone Star.. i will watch it if they bring Rob back.. and Tarlos!
-
3
Yes please!!! Yes!!!
-
J
Watch the Original 911 and can't wait for the ne t season to start of 911 Nashville. The characters/actors etc are fab and the stories they have shown so far don’t disappoint. Never could get into 911 Lonestar.
-
S
Bring back Rob!!! Nashville is a poor substitute for Lonestar.
-
R
I am presuming these popular shows end because the costs including the actor’s contractual salaries become too expensive to remain profitable. The Lowes would seemingly have to shift back to their Season 1 salary levels for any of these ideas to work
-
H
My entire family was upset Lone Star wasn't renewed. Let's bring the show back and have Lone Star help on a collaborations in Nashville
-
B
I love Rob Lowe's an 911 Nashville so bring that sexy Owen Strand on the show I would love to c him A LOT MORE
-
K
Yes, yes, yes!!!!!
-
S
911 Nashville just never did it for me!
-
-
A
I don’t know depends on what character he would play. I love the current characters would he be like over the guys at 9-1-1Nashville
-
B
I guess any large city would be acceptable to me.
-
S
I never watch 911 Nashville so I hope Rob Lowe does not appear there.
