Dylan Dreyer is opening up about one of her hardest moments in motherhood.
During the latest episode of The Parent Chat podcast, the Today meteorologist shared details about her past miscarriage experience. “I’ve suffered one miscarriage, and I remember, we were kind of on a group vacation,” she told her podcast guests, The Viall Files hosts Nick Viall and Natalie Joy. “So, there was just like a lot of people around, and everybody’s happy, everybody’s on vacation. And I was hiding the fact that I was pregnant. So, I’m like pretending to drink, but not really drinking.”
Dreyer noted that she suffered a miscarriage while on the trip. “I remember also hiding the fact that I was, in addition to hiding the fact that I was pregnant, dealing with this miscarriage,” she recalled. “And I’m surrounded by people. There’s literally no one I can talk to. I’m crying in my bed in so much pain, because no one really tells you how painful, physically painful, it is. And I’m like, ‘Man, I wish I could share this with someone,’ and you can’t always do that.”
Dreyer became a mother with the birth of her eldest son, Calvin, in 2016. She shares her three sons, including Oliver and Rusty, with her estranged husband, Brian Fichera. Back in July 2025, Dreyer revealed via Instagram that the pair had separated a few months prior. She officially filed for divorce in March.
Dreyer previously opened up about her miscarriage on Today in April 2019. “I wake up to just massive bleeding, to the point where I’m standing in the shower and it just won’t stop. I wake Brian up, and I tell him that, and I said, ‘I think I lost the baby,'” she stated. “And the first thing he said to me is, ‘You didn’t lose the baby. It’s your body doing what it needs to do. You didn’t do anything wrong.’ He was so supportive.”
She added, “I am blessed with the family that I have, but going through a miscarriage and not knowing what the future holds is emotional. And I just want people to know that I’m going through it, too.”
On the podcast, Viall and Joy also opened up about their decisions to share their own miscarriage experiences after Joy suffered three last year. (The couple welcomed their eldest daughter, River Rose, in 2024, and recently welcomed twin girls, Iris and Dove, on June 30.)
For Joy, she said the couple’s fans “created a very safe space” for the two of them during their miscarriages. “After the first one, it was like, ‘How do I come back to this show, The Viall Files? How do I talk pop culture?’ This is just real-life things that are happening to me, and I can’t go on this show and act like they’re not,” she told Dreyer. “But I’ve had so many people be like, ‘I couldn’t ever put those feelings into words until I heard you say them,’ ’cause it’s the most alone feeling you’ll ever feel. And it’s like this shame within your body. And so, to have someone else talk about it, it finally felt like, ‘Oh, I’m seen. Oh, I’m not alone.'”
She continued, “I think we’ve created a safe community within our audience of like, this is what we’re going through. And luckily, a lot of them allow us the grace to process and go through them at our own time.”
Viall, for his part, shared, “It’s this community that feels so alone and they have no one to talk to, because, I guess, I don’t know if it’s society or what has said, ‘Keep this private, don’t tell anyone.’ And I get it, like, it’s difficult. Some tragedy happens, and you don’t want to have to go back. But, I think as an almost negative consequence, we have made a bunch of mothers feel like they almost can’t share it, in a weird way.”
