Dylan Dreyer is opening up about how her son’s celiac disease diagnosis has changed her family’s food habits.
The Today meteorologist has been an advocate for celiac disease awareness since her eldest son, Calvin, was diagnosed with the condition in 2023. Per the Mayo Clinic, celiac disease is an autoimmune disease in which the immune system’s reaction to gluten can damage the small intestine. Calvin’s diagnosis led Dreyer to launch the Today segment “Cooking With Cal,” in which she and Calvin teach viewers how to cook delicious gluten-free meals.
In a recent interview with Parents, Dreyer revealed that her home is not only a 100 percent gluten-free zone for Calvin, but for her entire family. “Now that Calvin’s Celiac is managed, he’s totally fine, but it’s annoying,” she told the outlet. “It’s annoying when we travel or when he goes to birthday parties or plays at somebody else’s house. We were at a pool club over the weekend, and there was nothing he could eat besides a bag of chips, so that’s frustrating.”
Dreyer said she completely eliminated gluten from her home to make it a safe space where Calvin doesn’t have to worry about his food safety. She noted that her younger two sons, Oliver and Rusty, have been on board with the diet change and even regularly opt for gluten-free options when eating out. Additionally, Dreyer has developed her cooking skills to create gluten-free homemade goods.

“When we’re not in the house, they can get whatever they want,” she stated. “But when we’re home, we’re all one team.”
Dreyer shares her three sons with her estranged husband, Brian Fichera. She announced the pair’s split via Instagram in July 2025 and officially filed for divorce in March. She gushed about her kids’ bond in the interview, noting they are a “team” in all aspects of their family life.
“I mean 100 percent they love each other, and they are really so sweet — especially first thing in the morning,” she shared. “But then they all come in to cuddle with me, and chaos ensues. Rusty gets upset that the other two want to cuddle with me, so he gets super jealous. Then Calvin’s like, ‘You never cuddle with me anymore! Is it because I’m the older one?’ Then all the fights break out, and it’s so physical in my house.”
Dreyer also revealed the important parenting advice she received from her fellow mother of three, Today‘s Sheinelle Jones. (Jones shares her kids — Kayin, Clara and Uche — with her late husband, Uche Ojeh.)
“Sheinelle told me it’s important to have that one-on-one time with your kids because it’s so easy for one of them to always get lost,” Dreyer stated. “She said you really have to make sure that they know they’ve got you and you’ve got them. That always stood out to me that I really need to have that one-on-one time with each one of them.”
Acting on Jones’ words of wisdom, Dreyer said she is planning solo overnight trips with each of her sons to their Long Island beach house this summer. “Now every single day they ask, ‘When are we doing that sleepover?'” she quipped. “School has to end first because none of this works while school is still happening. But they are really looking forward to it.”

If don’t have celiac you shouldn’t eliminate gluten for your diet . It’s not good if have celiac that’s one thing but can’t have the other two kids eat gluten free they need the nutrients
