‘Good Morning America’s Ginger Zee Gives Glimpse Into Family Lake Vacation

Ginger Zee is enjoying some quality time with her family amid her ongoing break from Good Morning America.
The meteorologist has been absent from the ABC morning show since Thursday, June 25. GMA‘s Sam Champion took over her weather reporting duties last week and has continued to fill in for Zee alongside ABC News’ Leslie Lopez this week.
Zee last appeared on GMA on June 24, reporting live from Rockaway Beach, New York. Shortly after her appearance on the show, Zee departed for her family vacation in Michigan. “So, I have a big day. Got up at my normal [time], like, before 4 a.m., but went to Rockaway Beach to do Good Morning America and all of our stories there,” Zee stated in a June 24 Instagram video, documenting her vacation travel journey.
“Then, had some meeting at the airport before taking flight one of two, transferring in Detroit — love that airport — and flying into Pellston, Michigan. Oh yeah! Headed to Northern Michigan. It’s home.”

Zee noted that she could not get to her final destination, Mackinac Island, by car, so she had to take a ferry. Upon arriving on the island, she rode in a horse and buggy to her hotel, as the island is car-free. “And then, we pulled up to The Grand [Hotel],” she stated. “Definitely feeling the travel, ready for some res. But it is so regal, and it feels like you’ve [been] transported back in time.”
Zee followed up the travel vlog with a picturesque photo of Lake Michigan via Instagram on Saturday, June 27. “Beautiful view,” one fan commented underneath the post. Another added, “Such an amazing sight!! It’ll always be the best lake.” Someone else gushed, “That’s our Lake Michigan. Ginger! Enjoy!!!!”
Posting another lake photo, Zee captioned a Monday, June 29, Instagram post, “This is now a Lake Michigan fan account. Hope you all have a great week.” One day later, Zee shared a sweet clip of her sons enjoying a sunny day at the lake. (Zee shares her kids, Adrian and Miles, with her husband, Ben Aaron.)

“Lake boys,” she wrote alongside the Tuesday, June 30, Instagram video. “Hope you all are staying cool in the heat.”
Fans gushed over Zee’s fun vacation post in the comments section, with one user writing, “Best way to enjoy a hot summer day is swimming in Lake Michigan!” Another added, “Have an amazing vacation!”
