‘Dutton Ranch’ Stars Kelly Reilly & Cole Hauser Break Silence on Showrunner Exit
Dutton Ranch has been renewed for Season 2, and it will have a new showrunner leading the ship in the second season. Series creator and executive producer Chad Feehan exited the Yellowstone spinoff after filming Season 1. Now, stars Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser have addressed Feehan’s departure.
Dutton Ranch debuted on May 15 with two episodes on Paramount+ and Paramount Network with a record-breaking audience for the streamer and cable channel, hence its June 24 renewal. Feehan’s exit was reported in April, just a few weeks before the series premiere.
Reilly and Hauser are executive producers on the series, as are Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan and his production partner, 101 Studios’s David Glasser. Reilly, Hauser, Sheridan, and Glasser were reportedly unsatisfied with how Feehan handled production of Season 1, according to Puck.
“Showrunners change all the time,” Hauser told The Hollywood Reporter in an interview with Reilly conducted before Dutton Ranch‘s Season 2 renewal. “This business is about adapting. We’ve been doing this for a long time. Things change. People move on.”
“We finished [Season 1] with Chad beautifully. We finished this season together,” Reilly said. “It was a really difficult but really satisfying show to make. And so was Yellowstone. So is anything worth making. We’re all creative minds and we all work together and I’m so proud of that. But if we get a Season 2, we don’t make those decisions.”
Feehan has worked on Sheridan shows before. He was the showrunner and executive producer of Lawmen: Bass Reeves before signing on as showrunner for Dutton Ranch. A new showrunner for Dutton Ranch has not been announced, but with the frequency that Reilly and Hauser praise director and executive producer Christina Alexandra Voros (Sheridan’s longtime collaborator on Yellowstone and The Madison), she seems like a possible option.
The Dutton Ranch Season 1 finale comes out on Friday, July 3.

Cole and Kelly is what made Yellowstone a success. Now we have dutton ranch. Sadly Marshals doesn't get that same vibe and it's just flat boring. Dutton ranch can go on for many seasons if they play the cards right.

I do agree Dutton ranch is a winner. As for Marshals, I enjoy the show. I think it's because I like crime police shows. It's not a show like Yellowstone or Dutton Ranch that takes me back to watching Dallas and Dynasty. Marshals is more like FBI, Criminal Minds, etc. So if you're not one to watch these kind of shows, it would be boring compared to Dutton Ranch.
