‘General Hospital’s Anthony Geary Makes Rare Appearance in Maurice Benard’s Video

Anthony Geary is showing support for his General Hospital family. After the first part of Maurice Benard‘s conversation with Genie Francis on his State of Mind podcast dropped on November 16, Benard took a moment to give his legendary former costar a shoutout for tuning in.

Benard shared a rare video of the retired Geary watching the podcast episode from his home in Amsterdam. The video was first posted by Claudio Gama, Geary’s husband.

“The only thing better than Genie Francis on @mbstateofmind is TonyGeary watching genie on STATE OF MIND,” Benard captioned the video. “I have the utmost respect for Tony I saw him in a one-man play. I’ve never seen better acting in my life. Soap operas began with Tony and genie I’m so happy to consider them my friend.”

Gama revealed that he was the one to show Geary the podcast episode featuring Benard and Francis. “It really made Tony very happy,” Gama’s caption read. “He told me, ‘those are two lovely and talented people great friends and I miss them.'”

Geary and Benard worked closely for several years once Benard joined the soap in 1993 as Sonny Corinthos. Geary and Francis’ Luke and Laura Spencer are one of the most iconic soap supercouples in TV history.

The now 78-year-old retired from acting and the role of Luke Spencer in 2015. “I really don’t want to die, collapsing in a heap, on that GH set one day. That wouldn’t be too poetic,” he told TV Insider in 2015. “In fact, it would be poetically incorrect. I have another life and I want time to explore it. Ever since I discovered Amsterdam and made it my home, I have found my artistic and social fulfillment there.”

Kelly Monaco, who played Sam McCall on GH for two decades, reunited with Geary in 2024 during a visit to Amsterdam. Geary’s onscreen son, Jonathan Jackson, recently showed his appreciation during his acceptance speech for his sixth Daytime Emmy win. “Even though I didn’t get to work with you this time around, the truth is, you are with me in every single scene I do,” Jackson said about Geary.
