That 90s Show will not be returning for a third season on Netflix as the streamer has canceled the That 70s Show spinoff series after just two seasons.

The cancelation was first reported by Deadline and later confirmed by series star Kurtwood Smith, who took to Instagram to let his followers know that Netflix would not be renewing the show for a third season.

“I know you have been asking me when season 3 is coming, but I have tough news…Netflix will not be renewing,” Smith wrote on Thursday night (October 3). “I just want to take a minute to say THANK YOU to all of the fans everywhere who supported and watched the show. You have come up to me in random parts of the world when I’m traveling and reached out to me through social media and just been so wonderful.”

He continued, “I’ve loved every minute of getting to bring Grandpa Red to life for you all. I’ve said it before but it’s worth mentioning again…this show had so much heart behind it and the most wonderful cast, writers, directors, producers and crew an actor could hope to work with. Thanks for letting Red and Kitty, their grandkid, all their grandkids friends and neighbors, the original cast members of That 70’s Show and all of our wonderful guest cast members entertain you for two seasons.”

However, Smith is not ready to say goodbye to the show and confirmed that the series will be shopped to other networks/streamers.

“To steal Red Forman’s words…we aren’t going to be dumbasses…we will shop the show, because good grandparents would try hard to get these kids graduated from high school,” he concluded.

That 90s Show debuted on Netflix on January 19, 2023, as a spinoff to the popular Fox sitcom That 70s Show. The show centered on Leia Forman (Callie Haverda), the teenage daughter of Eric Forman and Donna Pinciotti, forming bonds with other teenagers as she spends the summer of 1995 with her grandparents Red (Smith) and Kitty (Debra Jo Rupp) in Point Place, Wisconsin.

The show was renewed for a second season in February 2023, with the first part of the season released on June 27, 2024, and the second part released on August 22, 2024.

According to Deadline, the first part of Season 2 only cracked the Netflix Top 10 once in its first week of release, with 1.8 million views. The premiere date for the second half of the season was then moved up almost two months, from October 24 to August 22, and the eight episodes did not chart.

Following the cancelation news, That 90s Show fans have taken to social media to blast Netflix and demand they reverse the decision.

“WTF @Netflix — why do you keep canceling awesome shows? Imagine if every show was canceled after two seasons just because it’s not getting the numbers you expect. Give a show a chance, especially this one!” wrote one X user.

“Dear @netflix why do you constantly cancel shows people actually like #That90sShow deserves better and hopefully another network can produce new episodes at least one more!” said another.

“Netflix really has to stop canceling shows after 1 or 2 seasons. Like streaming services need to stop making anything if they’re gonna keep doing it,” added another.

Another wrote, “I’m actually devastated about That 90’s Show getting cancelled. I was really looking forward to the next season!”

Others started the hashtag #SaveThat90sShow, with one fan writing, “@netflix how dare you cancel That 90’s Show?! Renew it! #savethat90sshow.”

“Well that sucks! F*** those Netflix dumbasses! #savethat90sshow,” said another.
