Days after the death of actor John Amos was announced, NBC has revealed a first look at the actor’s final role in the upcoming Suits spinoff Suits L.A.

Amos, who was best known for his roles in TV’s Good Times and Roots and films like Coming to America and Die Hard 2, stars in the spinoff series as a fictionalized version of himself, who becomes a client of Ted Black’s (Stephen Amell) law firm. According to Deadline, the episode was filmed in April 2024.

Suits L.A. centers on Ted Black’s journey from a New York prosecutor to a Los Angeles attorney as his firm is in crisis. Amell stars alongside Josh McDermittLex Scott Davis, and Bryan Greenberg in the series, the logline for which is: “Ted Black, a former federal prosecutor from New York, has reinvented himself representing the most powerful clients in Los Angeles. His firm is at a crisis point and to survive he must embrace a role he held in contempt his entire career. Ted is surrounded by a stellar group of characters who test their loyalties to both Ted and each other while they can’t help but mix their personal and professional lives.”

Davis, for one, paid tribute to Amos on Instagram, writing, “Was lucky enough to meet this icon during the filming of Suits: LA. My heart hurts.”

Amos reportedly died on August 21 of congestive heart failure. The timing of his death announcement has raised some eyebrows due to prior claims by his daughter that he was the victim of elder abuse. His daughter most recently claimed that she only learned of his passing through the news reports.
