[Warning: The below contains MAJOR spoilers for Married at First Sight Season 17 Episode 2, “ Rocky Mountain Romance.”]

Married at First Sight‘s Season 17 twist has arrived as single Michael hoped to make a romantic connection with an eager bride but was ultimately left at the altar.

That was teased since the start of the season, but viewers finally got to see how all of the events unfolded when wedding ceremonies took place in the latest installment, “Rocky Mountain Romance.” Following Emily and Brennan’s nuptials last week, it was Orion and Lauren, Becca and Austin, and Cameron and Clare’s turns to say “I do,” along with Michael, who was left dumbfounded when his wife-to-be backed out.

Going through the usual celebrations, Michael got ready for his big day alongside his groomsmen as they encouraged him, but doubts lingered as he worried about how his appearance would be perceived. Admitting that he can be a little bold and an “acquired taste,” Michael hoped his new bride wouldn’t judge him based on the first appearance.

And while she ultimately decides to not go through with the nuptials, it doesn’t exactly sound like the decision was based on Michael or his appearance. Michael was gifted a sword and crown, and he dons the items when he steps into position at the end of the aisle. But as the minutes begin to tick by, the anxiety ramps up.

By the time his bride-to-be arrives, Michael seems relieved, but she quickly tells him she can’t get married at first sight. She calls him sweet, and he tries convincing her otherwise, but it isn’t long before she is walking away, remaining nameless and faceless to audiences, along with her guests who never appear onscreen.

It’s curious, to say the least. Michael is visibly upset and eventually retires to his room, where he convenes with friends. They try comforting him, and he worries about how he handled the rejection publicly. Later, Michael and his pals go to the reception venue and find that his bride has left his gift for her along with a note.

It’s unclear right now if Michael’s time with the show has ended for the season considering the circumstances, but we certainly have some questions that will hopefully be answered as Season 17 continues on Lifetime.
