‘9-1-1’ Crossover: Angela Bassett to Guest Star as Athena Grant on ‘Lone Star’ (VIDEO)
What better way to celebrate 9-1-1 and Lone Star once again airing back-to-back than with a bit of a crossover?
Angela Bassett makes a special appearance, bringing her 9-1-1 character, Sergeant Athena Grant, to the spinoff for the March 21 episode as the series moves back to 9/8c. (9-1-1 reclaims its 8/7c time slot with its return for the rest of the season.)
As the promo shows, Grace Ryder (Sierra McClain) answers a call from Captain Owen Strand’s (Rob Lowe) girlfriend Catherine (Amy Acker) after she opens an envelope that came with a flower delivery. “I think we just had a biological attack,” Catherine says. If it is anthrax, she is facing four hours until organ failure — and “there is no treatment,” Owen tells her.

In “Prince Albert in a Can,” in addition to Owen and the 126 racing to the rescue after that package delivery to the governor’s office, Grace and Officer Carlos Reyes (Rafael Silva) team up to investigate a prank 9-1-1 call that turns deadly.
Previously, 9-1-1‘s Henrietta “Hen” Wilson (Aisha Hinds), Evan “Buck” Buckley (Oliver Stark), and Eddie Diaz (Ryan Guzman) headed to Austin to help battle a wildfire in Lone Star Season 2. Also, a familiar face has popped up on calls on both shows, and the 126 heard about the head injury Howard “Chimney” Han (Kenneth Choi) suffered.
The latest crossover comes after 9-1-1‘s spring premiere, “Outside Looking In,” during which Captain Bobby Nash (Peter Krause) and the 118 will “speed” to the rescue of a family whose pick-up truck has been rigged with a pipe bomb set to detonate if they slow under 55 miles an hour. Plus, Eddie has a rough transition into his new job after leaving the 118, Buck makes an impulsive relationship decision, and Hen is reluctant to accept a replacement for the absent Chimney.
When TV Insider spoke with Gina Torres (who plays Captain Tommy Vega on Lone Star), she’d named Bassett, Hinds, and Krause as part of her dream crossover. We’ll have to wait to see if Tommy and Athena interact at all.
