‘Shining Girls’ Trailer: Reality Is a Matter of Perspective for Elisabeth Moss (VIDEO)
Shining Girls is going to have you questioning everything.
Elisabeth Moss stars in the Apple TV+ metaphysical thriller, premiering on Friday, April 29 (with the first three episodes), as Chicago newspaper archivist Kirby Mazrachi, who put her journalistic ambitions on hold after she endured a traumatic assault. When she learns a recent murder mirrors her own case, she partners with the seasoned and troubled reporter Dan Velazquez (Wagner Moura) to uncover her attacker’s identity. They realize these cold cases are inextricably linked, but their own personal traumas and Kirby’s blurred reality allow her assailant to remain one step ahead.
Speaking of that blurred reality, the trailer offers a look at just that, with different hairstyles for Moss’ Kirby. “Everything is like always,” she says. “And then it’s not. Things are not how I left them. They’re not how they’re supposed to be. Because after what he did, everything changed.”
Amid the even more mysterious imagery, she continues, “nobody remembers anything different. And then it happens again. And again. And again. He’s everybody. He’s nobody. He’s all the time.” As the preview tells us, reality is a matter of perspective. Watch the video below for more.
Shining Girls, based on Lauren Beukes’ bestselling novel, also stars Phillipa Soo, Amy Brenneman, and Jamie Bell.
The eight-episode series is adapted and executive produced by showrunner Silka Luisa. Moss, Michelle MacLaren, and Daina Reid direct. Also serving as executive producers are Moss, MacLaren, Reid, Beukes, Lindsey McManus, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Davisson, Michael Hampton, Rebecca Hobbs, and Alan Page Arriaga.
