Russell Hornsby Reminisces About ‘Grimm’ 10 Years After Its Premiere
Russell Hornsby has acquired impressive credits over his more than 20-year acting career. But it’s the BMF star’s turn as dedicated Detective Hank Griffin from NBC’s fantastical hit Grimm that holds a special place in fans’ hearts. Although the show’s run ended in 2017, Hornsby comes in contact with cast members here and there. He even appeared alongside Claire Coffee (Adalind Schade) in the short-lived Lincoln Rhyme: Hunt for the Bone Collector.
“It would be great to have some kind of big cast reunion to share stories at a Comic-Con or something like that,” Hornsby said. “I still talk to David [Giuntoli], Sasha [Roiz], everybody here and there. We get together depending on where we are for drinks or a birthday party. Six years is a long time to work with someone in this business, so you do become a family. No matter where someone is or how long time goes on, they will always be family and have a special place in my heart.”
Grimm recently celebrated its 10-year anniversary since first hitting the airwaves. In the age of reboots and revivals combined with the explosion of streaming services such as Peacock, many on social media are clamoring for a fairy tale return. The spinoff in development from 2018 centering on a female Grimm and carrying on the mythology never moved forward. Regardless of what happens in the future, Hornsby is satisfied with his happily ever after.

“We did 123 episodes. I don’t think there is much story left to tell after more than 100 episodes,” Hornsby said. “I think the legacy is strong. It still plays strong in America and overseas. I’ll go all over the world and people recognize me from Grimm. That’s a wonderful legacy to leave. Old and young still love it. I have nothing but respect for that and the time I spent. Six years of my life were spent in Portland, Oregon in the freezing cold and rain in that forest. People still have many episodes to go back and watch.”
Hornsby may have put his days of investigating Wesen behind him, but the memories of what he felt every day on set clearly remain.
“Everyone came to work with a joy in their heart and an elevated spirit,” he recalled. “I like to think of actors living in Never Never Land. We’re at a time in our lives where we were in our early to mid-30s and had an innocence about us.
“We found the opportunity of being on a regular series, having a consistent job, and making money. Some of us were married. Not many had kids yet. We could just have fun and work. It was a playground. We were still kids having fun, laughing. It was before the real responsibility of being an adult in our lives. It was pure innocence. That is what I want to hold on to.”

One of my favorite shows I still watch the series in entirety from time to time. I would love to see a reboot with the kids continuing and the original cast members as guides almost.

I loved Grimm . Have seen it over 20 times n have the DVD set .. I so wish it would come back . Would love to see how things did for Rosalie n Monroe with the triplets, also for Nick n Adalind , n the rest of the cast.could be so many more story lines ..

Very well done series! I hated to see it end, but you can tell when writers are running out of material or when they plan to bring it to a close. I've watch the whole series twice and would watch it again! Acting was excellent, which makes the whole difference! I can't remember anyone who didn't play the part well!

I think they left it perfect to revive. Diana and Kelly were at the perfect age to join the action with the group along with the triplets. I would have loved to see where that story took us

I loved Grimm so much and cried like a baby on the last episode,hated to see it end. My favorite episode is the one where this wesen working at a hotel that all of them were staying and he put something in they're drinks and made them fall in love with each other,the funniest being Hanks character who had fallen in love with himself after looking in the mirror.

I loved the series and i still do. I love all the characters and i still enjoy rewatching GRIMM.

They could have continued for 5 more years had they used storylines on Hank, Wu, Truble, even Bud. The real star was Stumptown. I lived across the river in '05 - '07. Great city despite rioting Wesen burning downtown.

I miss the show as well. I have been watching it on Prime Video repeatedly since September 2021. Love the story lines and the actors.

Just rewatched the entire series and i am so sad there wasnt a spin off or at least a movie about Kelly, Diana and the triplets that would have made for an amazing continuation to the series just to see how they do things with the technology and knowledge of the future

Loved Grimm. The first seasons were full of marvelous surprises, and the procedural episodes were good too. I remember loving the police cast. It’s not on legacy TV. Wish it was.

Great series!!!👍👍 We're watching it now for at least the 5th time, after watching the 4th time 2 months ago. Will watch it again with a month or two in between. I really liked Hank.....most likeable of all, but all were excellent. Russell Hornsbey will always be Hank to me, but am impressed with his range & acting ability......e.g. as Don King in "Mike", wild hair & all! 🤣 Would love to see a Grimm re-do.....just needs new writers. Went off the rails early when Adeline's cat scratched Bitsy. But still will watch it over & over. 😉👍

Good show. A few characters I didn't care for very much (or maybe the actor I didn't care for), but the storyline was interesting and well done.

That was a great show, I'll watch it again, but it's funny, they immediately want to copy-cat it with a Female Grim, then a Black Grim, then a Gay Grim... If those Producers had half a brain, they would have simply killed off the White Guy and continued the series with a Female, then kill off the female for a Black, then Black for Gay, and so on until everyone in the world has an opportunity to be grim!!!
