‘The Blacklist’ Finale: What Did You Think of Liz’s Ending? (POLL)

The Blacklist Finale Season 8 Megan Boone
Spoiler Alert

[Warning: The below contains MAJOR spoilers for The Blacklist Season 8 Finale, “Konets.”]

Farewell Elizabeth Keen!

After eight seasons, The Blacklist bid adieu to the rookie FBI agent-turned-criminal in the June 23 season finale of the series, just over a week after it was announced that Megan Boone would be leaving as a series regular after Season 8. Though the announcement shouldn’t have come as a major surprise — Boone was offscreen for a large portion of the season while Liz was on the lam as a fugitive — news of the co-lead’s (alongside James Spader) exit still caused shockwaves.

But as sudden as the departure might feel to viewers, it sounds like the writers had plenty of time to plan the conclusion of Liz’s story, with Deadline reporting that the (mutual) decision was made early on in the eighth season for Boone to leave after the final episode.

So how did Blacklist handle Agent Keen’s final chapter? “Konets” picks up after the penultimate episode, “Nachalo,” dropped some major bombshells — namely that Liz’s mother Katarina Rostova is still alive (and in hiding), and the woman she believed to be her mother is actually a spy. Also, the real Raymond Reddington was Liz’s father, whom she shot and killed as a child, spurring Katarina to send her to live with her adoptive father. Because no one was aware of Reddington’s death, Katarina created a new “Red” (Spader) to watch over Liz.

So who is Red really? Before Raymond will reveal that via a letter from Liz’s mother, he has one “condition” — he wants her to take his life, “literally and metaphorically.” By taking Red out, she’ll prove to other criminals that she is “a force to be reckoned with” and head up his empire, taking over the blacklist.

Liz turns him down, but he’s not the only one who wants her to take over the blacklist. Harold Cooper (Harry Lennix) agrees that the list could help keep Liz safe, allowing her to get immunity with the FBI (though he doesn’t know about Red’s plans for execution just yet). Ressler (Diego Klattenhoff) — who is doing much better and shares a kiss with Liz in the hospital — and Aram (Amir Arison) disagree, telling Liz that she’s no criminal.

As viewers wait to see what Liz will do, the writers begin dropping hints about where things might be headed for the character. In a callback to the pilot episode, Liz runs into Beth Ryker, the daughter of General Ryker and the young girl whom she saved by defusing a bomb all of those years ago. Beth reminds Liz that through her bravery she saved thousands of lives.

This reminder spurs Liz to reconsider Red’s offer and she meets with him in New York to talk it over. She wants to know why he thinks she as his “heir” would work, why people would accept that, and he explains that “they’ll accept it because you’re a criminal.”

“Is that what I am? Or is that what I am because of you?” she asks.

“I’ve considered that question so many times, how things might’ve been different if I had never re-entered your life,” he muses. “Would you be safer? Happier? Was it my presence alone that brought you to this crossroads? Or maybe none of that ever mattered. Maybe you were born to this, out of a lie, the daughter of a spy, genetically predisposed to deception and danger. I don’t know.

(Will Hart/NBC)

“Whether it’s chance or karma, DNA or fate or just bad luck, this is where you are now. This is who you’ve become. A criminal, a fugitive. And taking my life is a way forward,” he concludes.

Red then lays out the plan: He’s hosting a private party at his restaurant Pascal’s the next night. She’ll wait outside of the restaurant, and when everyone leaves, she’ll shoot him on the sidewalk in front of CCTV cameras. The footage will then be leaked and word will get out internationally that she’s the new criminal in charge.

While Liz mulls over the decision, there’s another wrapping-up of sorts for her and Red, as the two, along with Agnes, share a nice afternoon in Central Park. He also talks about her mother, admitting that he knew her “better than anyone.” The reason he can’t reveal his identity before she kills him? “If you knew beforehand, you’d never agree to kill me.”

Ultimately, Liz decides she’ll do it, and the pieces start to fall into place as she has small, special moments with other important people in her life. She calls up Aram and asks him to forgive her in advance for “what she’s done and what she will do.” She also calls Agnes, who tells her she “feels blessed” having her as a mother. This can’t end well, right?

(Will Hart/NBC)

Soon enough, Ressler, Cooper, and Aram figured out what’s going to happen with Red and Liz and they rush to the restaurant to intervene, but they don’t make it in time. Instead, Liz approaches Raymond but she can’t shoot him. As she stands there frozen, gun in hand, she’s suddenly shot in the back by an unidentified criminal. Red pursues him and takes him out, but it’s too late. Liz’s life is flashing before her eyes: her childhood, her life with Tom, joining Cooper’s team, her friendship with Aram, her relationship with Ressler, watching Agnes grow up, and finally, her journey with Red.

And then, the big moment: Red kisses Liz on the head just as we get a flashback to Liz’s mom holding her as a baby and kissing her. (Is this the final confirmation that Red is Liz’s mom, Katarina?!) The episode then ends with Dembe pulling Red away, as Liz lays bleeding on the ground and the task force runs in.

What a finale! And while we’re not 100 percent certain that Liz is dead, given all of the hints at her demise throughout the episode (her final moments with loved ones, the callback to her early case, the making peace with Red) and the large pool of blood around her body, we don’t have high hopes. Of course, Liz could survive and just be off-camera going forward, but given that series creator Jon Bokenkamp told TV Insider that the finale is “very much the ending of a story we’ve been telling for eight years,” we don’t think Elizabeth Keen is long for this world.

So there you have it: Rest in peace (maybe?) Liz. May we learn more about your (maybe?) mother in Season 9, because as we mentioned, even though Boone is gone, Spader isn’t hanging up his fedora just yet. The Blacklist was renewed back in January, so we can assume Red’s story will carry on, along with those of Ressler, Aram, and Harold Cooper.

So what did you think of how Liz’s tale concluded? Vote in the poll below and sound off in the comments.

They announced that Liz and the viewing audience would hear all the answers, including Reddington's relationship to Elizabeth - by the end of the this season. They lied.

I was not surprised Liz died, as they said she was leaving the show at the end of the season, and had made the decision to do so quite a while back. And there were no plans to bring her back, except perhaps in flashbacks or something similar.

As they said she and the viewers would hear all the answers by the last show, I'm most disappointed by their failure to do as promised.

They did though. As she was cradles she flashbacked. Redding ton is her mother.

That is pretty unbelievable that they showed you in such depth and in so many ways that Red is the sex-changed Katarina and you missed it. You were bombarded with detail after detail obviously revealing the truth.

Some of those simple clues were -

Townsend wanted to kill Liz to get at Reddington. He tells Red over and over how aptly the punishment fits the intended crime. You (Katerina) (and also Liz's parent) will suffer exactly as I did.

The song 'It's a Man's World" when the dopey 'Superman , Fortress of Solitude' black and white interactive flashback was going back to the plastic surgery/reconstruction.

Red telling Liz 'I know Katarina better than she knows herself' so self confidently, which a a statement only possible for a person revealing themselves to really be that other person as noone can know a different intelligent person better than they know themselves.

There are many, many more - they're not clues - they're answers than the ones I've mentioned.

Also despite the obvious danger that the emergence of the real Katarina poses to Liz (far more than the isolated Reddington would) the whole Katerina is Red thing is really - in character - and explains a lot of the psychological motives, coverups, refusals to come clean. The reticense about disclosure would naturally cloud the situation - particularly when you are talking about a legendary beauty.

It would always feel awkward and never feel natural and right fir Liz to bond in a natural mother/daughter way with her beautiful spy mother if she had to do so with the masculine Red.

Katerina/Red would always feel awkward about it after what she did to survive and get ahead so many years back in a completely different past.

Another very obvious detail (which is more coincidental though) -

I have always been attracted to peering at the young Raymond Reddington (in sunglasses) picture on his 'Most Wanted' poster. This is an image at an age where Reddington is a younger criminal and after the Katerina/Masha/fire incident. If you look at it you will see that it is intended to be the older sex-changed Katarina.

But even better is to google images of 'young james spader' who was clearly chosen as was the young Katarina for the similarity of their physical appearance by the producers at the show's inception.

These are the same producers who marched the show's cameramen, actors etc around the set one day to film a quirky, not in context with anything else scene of the older Reddington at home ,injecting himself with some kind of drugs - his male hormones.

Watching Season 1 etc again Red lost his own family, where he was a Dad, many years ago, before Katatina and Liz etc. I am fed up with waiting for his backstory now, just get on with it! But please not this Redarina nonsense, it doesn't tie to his own memories / life, and it isn't possible to change overall physique / build / stength that much, plus that is a total betrayal of all of Red's own story and tragedy. I am glad Liz has gone as that dynamic was annoying, but they should've wrapped up the Liz's parents bit years ago. I expect they save her and she goes into hiding with Agnes.

Perhaps Liz planned the whole thing. She's alive, the plane is waiting to take her, Agnus, Red & Dembe off to Europe. Red did i not know. Liz had a change of heart after Red and Agnus is Central Park. Liz figured out Red is her mum!! Red gets more Chemo and lives.

    3. P

      PurpleGlasses

Reddington's memories and past family don't tie in cuz he is not the real Reddington. The real Reddington was shot by Liz when she was a child and he came to the house to go after her Mother, Katarina, for being a double spy and stealing US Naval secrets from him.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I have never been so let down by a show I absolutely love. The huge twist is that Red is transgender? What? No. That's lazy and impossible. This show has left me with a burn similar to being cheated on. I refuse to acknowledge this hot garbage.

I completely agree with Ripley. I had tears in my eyes and that doesn’t happen often, especially with tv shows. With less competent actors that may not have happened. But that’s the way this amazing show has gone. I hated it when Tom died but every actor in this series to me has been so good I haven’t had time to be sad and certainly not annoyed. I can't imagine that there is even a suggestion that her mother underwent surgery to become a man. I would prefer that red actually be her uncle. That being the case he would be able to look after Elizabeth's daughter ( his great niece). Here and not only that way in the future The blacklist would continue the daughter would grow up and you'd have a whole new series again.

      OrangeDog

There have been so many hints that Red is actually Lizzies mother??? Are they really going to spin that out for another whole season?? If that does turn out to be the case, it will be the biggest and most ridiculous shark jump of all time. Besides which, both Cooper and Lizzie each ran seperate DNA tests on Red to confirm he is the original Reddington and Lizzie's biological father.

you may not be able to imagine it but it's what's in front of you on the screen.

Personally I think the writers may have finally murdered me with this finale. I was hoping there would be something else. But apparently not.

It does occur to me that "Red" as a nickname for the former Katarina makes a kind of ironic sense.

But I feel like overall they have wasted years of my time with this story. I want to stop watching.

Very disappointed with the ending. I thought for sure Red would reveal who he is as Liz was dying but sadly that was not the case. We were promised answers and not given the most important one of all. What will happen to Agnes as she now has no family to call her own? Hopefully this will be answered next season and not just swept under the rug. Here's hoping that letter gets to someone else, perhaps Agnes who will read it when she is old enough to understand. Again, a disappointing end with the biggest question of all left unanswered and who knows if it ever will be.

Perhaps "reveal" promises were made prior to the decision to have a Season 9. The "reveal" would have been the "show-ending" stunner. But, with a Season 9, Red has to keep going. Personally, I never considered Megan a very good actress. And she's not at all convincing as a "bad guy". She's hardly convincing as a tough FBI agent.

There was one major misconception in your analysis: The "unidentified criminal" who shot Liz was not unidentified. Before Red shoots him one can clearly see that it's Townsend right hand (Don't know his name, the one with the big beard). He shot Liz as Revenge for Townsend and to fulfill his wish, that Red sees Liz die.

They trashed Liz all season and made it to the point where I was glad she was leaving. That being said this episode was incredibly dumb and Liz deserved better. Her death scene was well done and moving but everything that led her there this year was not. Whatever answers they may or may not ever give will only be salt in the wounds for at least half the audience still hanging in there. I was in total SHOCK that Keen went out the way she did. But everyone thinks that Red is Katriana. NOT ME. I think Red is Keen's true father. Remember what Red said... Not everything is real. Nothing is what it seems no matter what he may have said. I believe Red is her true father. He told Keen that if he told her who he truly was... SHE WOULD NEVER KILL HIM. I think Red is her father and they lied about Keen killing him when she was younger or he may have surrived that gunshot wound. Either way.. Just my thought process!! I've been a faithful viewer of the Series since it began and am very disappointed in the last episode this season. The Series has lost its moral compass, if it ever had one, I wonder now. To force the character of Liz to kill Red is too much, and have other characters agree to it regardless of their self serving reasons crossed the line. What of little Agnes and Dembey now? The whole season has been weak and below standards this year with Liz seldom there and everything just 'hanging' all the time. Maybe it is time to close the Series all together?

As others, I am super annoyed by this ending. I figured they would have to do something more drastic than make Liz the new Red if Spader was staying on and she was leaving. It feels unjust for her to die without her answers though - something they talked about in writing class as a way to alienate your audience. At any rate, I think we will find that Liz arranged her own death. She had been mulling over whether or not she was a criminal and i think she decided she wasn't. She realized that she couldn't become Redington and make decisions that would kill people when, as she was reminded in the train station, she was a hero. Thus, she realized she would never be free, her daughter never safe. Her phone calls were her making peace with her decision - clearing her conscience. She replayed all of her loving memories as she died, making me think she died satisfied with her choices and her need to know who Red was, unimportant - other than he was someone loving in her life.

As far as who Raymond is... I wonder if the writers just change that based on how the storyline progresses. If I had to guess though, I would say Uncle, or maybe someone who had been loyal to the family and loved Katarina without ever having her - like a bodyguard. Everyone seems to have a 2nd in this world, but we don't see a lot about Katarina's.

Good points. Liz sure did sound like she was saying good bye. But.......what if she found her mother, faked her death and now they are all on their way to Europe. Red was kept in the dark. Mommy and Uncle Daddy reunite with Liz and granddaughter Aggy.

  30. R

    RedFlask

After half the world thinks Red is Katarina, it would seem that, even if that was the original intention, the showrunners must have already gone beyond it and thought up something else. By now, the Katarina/Red angle seems too easy and obvious.

Red being Liz's uncle, OK, but why would Liz "never agree" to kill an uncle she never knew?

On the other hand, Katarina's husband was "chosen" by Katarina's father, and Liz' father was a "mark". Maybe Red was Katarina's true love and partner nobody knew about, and albeit not Liz's biological father, the only one who truly loved Liz. And then, where is the real Katarina anyway? No indications she is still alive; just that she never died a confirmed death.

This is an entertainment show, after all... But it's a great one. Just can't walk away from the TV screen.

I feel that When Liz got shot Before she took her last breath he should have told her who he really was instead of letting it end the way it ended.. The question with me who is red What is the purpose of season 9 Will he reveal who he is.. That's the question now for me... Because Liz played a big part of the show... so i guess we gotta to wait to see what's next

      PurpleTrumpet

I won't believe it ever. If the writers do that they have changed tack and gone for something totally unrealistic. Trans people don't get whole new skeletons, new hands and feet, new muscles, taller etc. The writers are letting all the characters down the longer it goes on.

      9 2

      1. G

        GreenFlask

And then there is his attraction to females. If its Katarina, she didn't change because she "felt" male, she would have done it to create an identity to protect Liz and therefore wouldn't be attracted to women or seek out relationships with them. So, hoping its not Katarina, will have gone into the truly absurd.

        1 1

  33. O

    OliveBoomerang

So we finally get the answers to Red's identity (I called it way back in season 2) but the show creators don't have the courage to come out right and say it, they have to beat around the bush and not give official answers yet again, and then they literally give us a season finale that declares Red's entire purpose is protecting Liz and she dies because of his plan, resulting in everything he has ever worked towards over the last 30 years be completely pointless and in vain. They had months to come up with a good sendoff for Liz and instead of writing something that honoured the years they've all put into this show they give us the cliche death, no official answers, a pointless pursuit, and 8 years all leading up to a moment that proves all we have been doing is wasting our time.

I was very tired of her love hate relationship with red. All he ever did was try to protect her. I am glad that story is over. If it had of continued my family and friends had decided to stop watching the show. Now that she is gone we will keep watching the show

speak for yourself. I'm glad she's dead. that'll prevent her from coming back with her dumb drama. she's not a mastermind, she's a bumbler, and she's bad at criminal-ing. the whole Ressler thing was dumb they way they played it out. good riddance! now they just better not try the Red is her mother garbage. that will be the final shark jump for this great show. Red is an amazing character and to throw him out to shoehorn some trans bandwagon in and make him Keen's mother is a disgrace to Reddington.

I think Red is probably her father, but as he said to a few people, he changed and after his first family died I think that set him on a different path and meant he couldn't allow himself to be a father, that's what Sam was to Liz. Revenge changes you is what he warned Donald and the life he ended up meant he couldn't take the risk. I reckon Liz has maybe not died, saved and been relocated, as Red sells that package 🙂

Glad Elizabeth died. I was tired of the other characters making excuses for her or the attempt to paint her as good when she was doing bad and getting innocent people killed all because she felt entitled to answers she had been warned again and again would put her and her daughter in danger. I'm very disappointed that we've been left to believe Raymond is really her mother. It doesn't add up to things seen and said in past seasons. It feels to forced and too easy of an out. I hope there is another season and we find out he isn't the mother, get his full back story and find out what really happened to the mother. If this is it and there will be no more then I'd say what a pathetic ending to what was a great series.

The writers SUCK. What a disrespectful and unimaginative way to write Liz out. After 8 Seasons, she is simply shot in the freaking back! Really? After all the ways she avoided death...you just have someone shoot her in the back? The writers must have just been pissed she was leaving because they gave her a really shallow exit. I don't even feel like watching another season. To leave the central question of the show unanswered when we were promised otherwise. What a cheap way to try to get ratings next season. Lying to the public is never a good practice.

I agree, after a while between Tom and Katerina, and Liz's real father and her mother and all of Red's lovers and business partners, the plot got twisted into a confusing knot. At the end I was tempted to write down all of the people who were involved in the back-plots, as I found myself forgetting about their relationship with the main actors. A great series, that should have ended with a nice tidy denouement.

Cannot imagine anyone who is satisfied with this show. Now bokencamp himself is leaving. Yep, the creator of the show won’t be there for season 9. They danced around Redtrina but never confirmed. Why couldn’t Red have told Liz all about it, and then they still could have killed her off. Seems like they don’t want us to actually enjoy the show.

Awful ending, just to give another season? Answers about Red should have told. Obviously, now Liz's daughter needs protection, but Red is

    5 2

  55. O

    OrangeDog

It feels like this whole season 8 has just been spinning wheels but going nowhere. Given the whole point of the show, is all about Red protecting Lizzie, (eventually) telling her all his secrets, and grooming her to take over his criminal empire, *IF* Lizzie is dead, then what is the point in continuing the show? All the questions of 'who is Red? Who were the bones'? Who led child-Lizzie from the fire?' and 'protecting Lizzie from Reds enemies' all become pointless. What will Red do now? Wait another 10-15 years for Agnes to grow up and repeat the whole storyline? But Red is terminally ill and doesn't have that long to live? I don't see where the whole show can go from here.

    3

    1. O

      OrangeDog

The other possibility is that Lizzie somehow survives? But seeing that Meghan Boone will not return, will there be a different actress play Lizzie next season? Or will the story continue in flashbacks, so all the unanswered questions can be wrapped up?

For those of you who are saying it wasn't actually revealed that Reddington is Katarina, did you even watch the entire scene in the Nest in Latvia?! They wrapped the entire 8 seasons of the mystery up with a bow! Katarina telling the story overlapping everything Reddington had told Liz about over the years. Have you EVER actually watched the way he looks at her, smells her head, holds her, kisses her head...? For real... the maternal essence he/she conveyed with Liz- his patience with his/her child, along with the way Reddington interacts with people throughout the entire series- noticing what they are wearing, how they smell, when they changed hairstyles... The writers were incredibly consistent, and Spader an expert in conveying such a brilliant role. There was a scene all the way back in Season 2 when he commiserates with a new mother of a baby with colic and he says "you must be exhausted", and she says, "you have no idea"... he pauses and says, "you'd be surprised." Yes, Red is Katarina... they spelled it out very clearly, and it was brilliant.

All of the hints support the "Red is Katarina" theory. In addition to the flashback/dissolve scenes with Katarina and Keen, Dembe critically told Red that their "man on the inside" at the hospital would take care of his body, making sure "the city" never got custody of it. To me, that's only of true value to Red if there's something about his body he would not want known, like a... ahem... physical incongruity, let's say.

So yeah, I'm thinking the Red-is-Katarina theory is well supported by available data.

Why did they kill LIz? Some fans (e.g. moi) have invested time, emotions, thoughts in this show and there is no denying it - this show is amazing because there is Red AND Liz AND the taskforce. That has always been the formula for success. At this point I really don't care who Red is anymore - the mystery is gone because the answer to that question will always be an anticlimax. There is no light anymore on this show - only darkness and that is depressing. The Keenler glimpses (seriously? now that it finally happened you just kill her?), Red & Ann, ... in a show this dark you need some hope and that has been taken away. That is disrespectful to the fans!

That ending was a betrayal of the viewers' trust. I was very sad at that ending and not because of the death of Liz (I disliked that character) but because I realized the show was ruined. The show is about Liz's need for answers and Red's quest to protect her by keeping them from her. All that is gone now. Liz deserved to know the truth before she died. The character was owed more than that nonsensical ending.

I don't think I can go on to season 9. I'll check the recaps on Wikipedia. Also, Bokencamp's gone? When the creator walks away...feels done.

The article says “As she stands there frozen, gun in hand, she’s suddenly shot in the back by an unidentified criminal.”

It makes absolutely no difference who Raymond Redington is now. Liz died before she could know Who he really was. At this point, it doesn’t matter anymore. The riders made a very stupid blunder in doing things the way they did. What an utterly stupid ending to season eight. What the hell were they thinking? Who gives a damn what happens in season nine? I don’t. I don’t know what makes the writers think they’re so clever when they were just nothing but a bunch of morons for ending the series this way.

It was disappointing to say the list - as is the (probable) confirmation of the "Redarina" theory. The death of Liz before she could get all the answers was a cuel move but Red being Katarina is just... well, not jumping the shark in the original sense, but it really pushes the viewers' suspension of disbelief beyond reasonable limits.

I might tune in for season 9 just for James Spader's acting and the curiousity what explanations the show's creators can come up with (romance with Anne, getting to know Jennifer etc. - oh come on) but I'm not sure yet.

All in all, I'm severely disappointed.

There are barely a handful of shows that can sustain a level of intrigue and curiosity as The Blacklist. I’ve watched this show back to back 4 times because of James Spader mainly. Having said that, and for some illogical and sociological reason,, wanting to see a resolution between Red and Liz, I assumed a predictive end to the series - But I am SO SO HAPPY to see Liz go - just the constant whining, groaning and moaning, the back and forth that caused everyone in her life to die - her complete emotional vacuous abyss that lends a total lack of chemistry with all her men - oh thank you for letting her go - let’s be real. She flip flops and vacillates too much. It’s of course the weak writing of her persona and not in the least the actress’s fault - I’m sure she is brilliant and has range - time will tell 🙂 by the way, Donald - yikes!!! What a bland character, no?

Ressler in the final scene is head to head with Keen, as if listening to something he's saying and not kissing her goodbye. Mutombo should have picked up her but rushed Red away instead. I conclude Keen set up her "kill" by putting blanks in Red's gun, hired the killer who's she is acquainted with already and only needed Mutombo to go along with it. She's dead on the front page, everyone on the Blacklist thinks she's dead. Red has a year or two left and will stay in the game. She'll go off to be a mom. As the episode fades, I believe she let's Ressler know; he'll find a way to secure her "death". Otherwise, a better ending would have been the killer, seeking revenge on his boss's death, shoots Red and Keen is killed returning fire. Both die holding hands, side by side. Mutonbo's daughter is seen raising Keen's daughter with him. Fade with that. Keen will come back after a raise in her contract.

Time to bin the Red as Katarina nonsense (Invasion of the Body Snatchers this isn't) as there's no way her slim and teeny frame grew into Red unless the writers think we're truly stupid.

Did you even stop for a moment and think that none of that would have happened if you have quit trying to know the truth? How the hell knowing the truth is going to make your life better? Wasn't better before knowing it? By the way, that's what you have been complaining in the end, not having a "normal life" (all your fault, for God's sake!)

Of course, it does not mean I don't understand her value to the show. I also wanted to know who is Red and how is he connected to Liz. After all, he said: if you knew who I truly am, you wouldn't kill me. Maybe an uncle? We'll see if we got the answer one of these days

  103. G

    GreenButton

Red is her mother after a sex change operation. I thought it was very clear and gave great closer to their relationship!

  104. P

    PurpleBottleOpener

How do we know that Reddington (Spade) isn't Liz's real father? Yes, shot and supposedly killed by Liz as a little girl. I may have missed something.

  105. C

    CyanPin

I was glad Liz was bumped off, her character became weak, whining, self serving and redundant. She made many poor, emotional decisions and her character began to weight the entire show down. Sorry Agent Keen you had to go.

  106. B

    BlueFan

Definitely one of the greatest TV shows, but what is sad is the Viewers... They want and expect answers... How hard is it to realize that everytime you get an answer, you become less interested, climaxing into boredom... The best way to get the answers from ANY SHOW is to watch it until you have them, then you stop watching... Pulp Fiction took a dozen viewings... How many times do the Owners of Blacklist want you to watch it? I have movies and TV series listed on my ReelGood that I want to see again later, some I COULD watch now, but it's too soon... If we never get answers, we keep looking, that's how the human brain is suppose to work... and it keeps entertainment entertaining

  107. O

    OliveClover

I think Harold Cooper needs a new suit! He has been wearing the same one forever.

  108. G

    GoldCorn

I cant believe they ruined the entire show, the nailed other seasons and people dying and revealing things, but they made this so stupid of an ending. You LITERALLY just removed the MAIN character from the show, which is how the ENTIRE plot revolves around her!

  109. O

    OliveHelmet

I didn’t care for agent keen anymore. I was actually getting sick of seeing her. Glad she’s gone and maybe the story will actually go somewheres

  110. G

    GreenRocket

The writers should still answer the audiences questions even if liz is dead.

  111. G

    GoldHammer

Maybe Red is her uncle AND her father? Eeewwww.

  112. C

    CyanLamp

In the end, Red had to witness the death of Liz, according to Townsend. I agree this made it appear that Red is actually Liz's mom after surgery. What makes it still confusing is the love Red shared recently with Anne. Personally I can't wait till the next season. For once a writer has been able to keep us guessing and assuming for so long.

  113. C

    CyanBasketball

I was in tears! It was such a touching final scene. All these people are fantastic actors! I am such a fan of this show, the writers are amazing, everything was perfect right up to where Liz did not get the whole truth before she died. James spader is the best actor ever! I'm hoping after a break they will all come back and Liz didn't REALLY die. Maybe she was wisked away on the brink of death and was revived! Shame on you writers for not completing the evolving story! Even though I love you.

Like I loss a member of my family in wheich I have many but it helped me Escape my reality which is priceless. The whole cast But why an why can’t you make more. But I feel maybe a plot twist or that’s my wishful thinking.

  117. R

    I could never stand Liz

  118. B

    BlueSnow

My Husband & I think that she was an awful actor. Just our opinion. Great show tho

  119. B

    BlueFan

I loved Samar. Mr. Kaplan I liked until they brought in that corny backstory of her being the nanny. That was dumb.

  120. B

    BlueFan

That really was one of the worst theories that the writers didn't think through. There would be no realistic way that Katarina transformed into Red.

  121. B

    BlueFan

I really enjoyed 1-3. Once Agnes was born, every season after that was less engaging because Liz was taking too much of the storyline.

  122. O

    OliveHelmet

I did not respond to the survey because my opinion was not represented in the choices. There is no Blacklist without Liz. You did not give any choices in the survey even remotely close to that

  123. C

No one ever read the letter...

  124. O

    OliveBeer

So glad she’s gone the weakest character

  125. P

    PurpleBattery

Way back in the series there was an episode where Red removed his shirt and his back was covered in 3rd degree burn scars. I believe this is the man Keen shot as a child, whom she believed to be her father at that time.

  126. O

    OliveHelmet

It was awful and I will not watch season 9. Why kill her? Have one last episode and bring her back. Red tells her all the answers she needs to hear. Not kill her. I should be the producer. Worse finale I have seen and I began to watch it from the pilot. I know you will lose a lot of viewers beginning with me. Trolls go ahead and respond with a big “Bye, Bye!”

  127. O

    OrangeGuitar

Wack, more disappointed than the finale of game of thrones, we as the public never knew about the truth regarding reddington.

  128. O

    OliveCactus

    Amazing show! Brilliant actors!

I was a complete wreck throughout the finale.

  129. G

    GoldBlowdryer

The worst drama ever screened. Started with so much promise as well but then all of the freshness went out of it and the ideas dried up. Almost every episode after season two appeared to be cobbled together with flashbacks and pathetically stupid plots and scenarios that made us feel afraid to tell friends and colleagues that we were still watching. A young woman just out of cheer leaders school, gets a job with the FBI'S typings pool and very quickly ,due to her association with a master criminal, becomes the most loved and dedicated agent in the organisation, revered by everyone with whom she has contact, only to throw all of this adoration back in there faces by becoming a mass bringer of death, an accomplished criminal and go top of the FBI'S most wanted list, despite everyone still loving her beyond belief.......what a plot. If you're seven years old maybe.

The only saving grace was the promise that at the end of this series we would have the answer to the one question that kept us all watching. What's the connection between Red and Liz? Turns out the writers haven't been able to think of one yet and I suspect they never will. Anybody prepared to watch this drivel for another minute has my deepest sympathy.

  130. B

    BlueProcessor

What a shock ending too tonight's episode. Wasn't expecting that. Brilliantly acted. Had the get the tissues out. Will miss you Liz.

  131. P

    PurpleSubmarine

Betcha Liz isn’t really gone and Red IS her father

  132. G

    GoldChilli

Why let another child motherless her dad was killed .. that’s enough for this child.

Rewrite her in to be the daughter of red, and since it’s the last season let them live happily ever after .... for in this day and time in our world we need happy

  133. G

    GreenBone

I thought it was going to end that Reddington would kill himself because he would think Liz wouldn't be able to do it. They showed him drinking wine and then his empty wine glass. I was sure that he had poisoned himself. The season had got a little boring because again they were trying to find Liz. Will be interesting to see where next season goes.

  134. O

    OliveHelmet

One more season, finish what you started

  135. G

    GoldWheel

Liz's killer wasn't "unidentified", it was Townsend's right hand man.

  136. C

    CyanCandy

Keen reminds me of Fiona in shameless they finally kicked her off the series to

  137. G

    GoldCorn

I bawled my eyes out when Elizabeth was shot! I had no idea they were going to write her off. It won't be the same without her.

  138. B

    BlueSnow

And.... What's with Dembe? What is he? The Imam of Reddington's life?

  139. O

    OrangeFries

I think she'll be back even if it's guest appearances and limited. If they truly wrote her out without more details we've faithfully watched 8 years for... they are dumber than earthworms....

  140. G

    GreenCupcake

Thinking that most shows should end much earlier. Why kill Elizabeth if money can be made getting people to watch the entire series. Pretty lame. Did the writers ever understand she was the story, not James spader?

  141. G

    GreenButton

Also, how could Liz live with herself knowing she was responsible all the pain and death she caused after being so stupid as to believe a random woman with a Russian accent instead of Red who may not do what she wants but who has a track record of looking after her, Agnes and her friends. She was so guillable but that is how badly written it was. Like the writers couldn't think of anything better to do, any better plots, and just dragged that parent thing out over more and more ludicrous stories instead of just wrapping up and moving it on to spies / revenge against whoever forced Red into abadoning Liz, revenge against whoever killed his family etc

  142. G

    GreenButton

I think bones could have been a random person and the records hacked. Liz deserved to die for what she did to Anne and everyone there, she killed innocents, she went too far. I'm over the who was Red in the past, he's a man and I'm happy watching him now. The rest just too melodramatic and implausible. Thinking I should've just stopped watching after the first couple of seasons.

    1 1

  143. G

    GreenFlask

Besides not having ANY of the secrets revealed (you could have given up a bit, if not all) I'm still trying to figure out whose bones were in the suitcase that was critical that Liz didn't find out. Or did I miss that?

  144. G

    GreenCloud

As soon as he said she wouldn’t kill him if she knew what was in the letter I knew Ted was her mom

  145. C

    CyanBike

I thought the premise itself was ridiculous. Red asks Liz to kill him since he’s dying anyway which would also have the added benefit of showing the shadowy world where he operated, that she was a total badass and not to be messed with. She agrees to do it but before she pulls the trigger, she asks him the one question we’ve all waited 8 seasons to hear, “Who are you, really. And he answers, “If I told you, you wouldn’t do it”. Then she gets shot in the back and dies So now we still don’t know what his true relationship is/was to her. My God, what a letdown.

  146. O

    OliveFan

So..... Who is going to take care of Liz's daughter??????

  147. B

    BlueLocomotive

You should not take a mother mother from her child ,how Is this different from liz's own story .Some new angle has to be brought, its a very saddening end as they want to make her daughter also like keen.

  148. G

    GreenBee

I def felt like as Liz was passing & looking into Red’s eyes the truth was revealed to hear… although I am surprised that she didn’t give us a verbal indication of “who” Red is.

I felt like Liz was cheated as a character bc not for even 1 single min of her life did she get to know & process the truth…

The whole premise of the show is based on who Red is- so apparently the writers feel the need to not reveal… even in Liz’s death… maybe not until the series finale?!?! Which I’m not sure how well that will work out for them!

As for whether or not red can be Liz’s mom… I think back to pre-PC culture & I think during the olympics SNL did a skit on a female Russian gymnast being extremely manly bc of extreme overuse of steroids… so… if we think back to that parody…. MAYBE!!! 😂😂

    1 1

  149. O

    OliveHelmet

Because of Agnes why not have Liz opt for a new identity and move overseas. She doesn’t need to be killed off. I got sick of all the side bodies killed on this show . Security guards etc by the

Liz played her part well loved the program

  151. R

    RedQuill

I was shocked, devastated and cried thinking about Agnes now with no parents

  152. C

    CyanMagnet

I'm still crying. I never saw it coming. I thought they'd fake Red's death. But I was shocked with Liz getting killed. I think Red is her father and that letter said so. Agnus will carry on and grow up fast. Maybe the lady watching Agnus is her real Grand mother.... I'm lost

  153. R

    RedCupcake

Screw Liz and the goat she rode in on !!!

  154. O

The ending really sucks. What’s the matter with you people, sucking us in, chewing us up then spitting us out. That’s how I feel! Please reconsider leaving Megan. Come back! Please, please please come back!!! Give her all the money she wants. The show will never be the same without her. I won’t watch anymore. I’m done without Elizabeth. Still love you David! I’ll watch any other show you decide to become a part of as long as your name is not Raymond Reddington.

    1 1

  156. B

    BlueFlower

Where are the results of the poll?

  157. B

    BlueBoomerang

I dont think there is a show without Liz. Its supposed to be about Reddington protecting Liz, his life's purpose. Would they do a fast forward and bring in a teenage Agnus? She would have to be very similar looking to Liz I think for it to work. If this scenario would happen then I wonder if Reddington would watch from afar or be more involved in raising her and if so would he turn her into her mother, a criminal? I never liked the idea that Reddington was really Katerina. I mean how stupid. Didnt they have his blood at some point and proved he was not her father? I think you could tell from the results if it were a womans sample. I always thought he was her uncle. Maybe. But his interactions with Katerina's dad did not quite fit, but maybe? Or what if it was Katerina's husband that got blown up, maybe he didnt really die but badly burned so needed a new look? I just dont know. But I am sad Liz is dead because she is the only character I liked other than Reddington, Tom and Dembay. Im always like get back to Reddington scenes I could care less about the task force.

    2 2

    1. G

      GreenFlask

I don't think they can do a fast forward to Agnes' teens cuz Red's got a terminal disease. If they get rid of Spader, I'm gone. Wish they would do more with the blacklisted criminals.

  158. G

    GoldChilli

I woke this morning with a pain in my chest, as though I had been shot. Liz was what made The Blacklist for me. The very agony that Townsend hoped to make Red experience NBC has given me. I was hoping she would choose to go abroad instead. Then we could at least hope to see her again. Now that she is gone so suddenly after eight years, it is over for me. This was the only TV show I watched, and usually that was on my computer.

I hate seeing it end in anyway’ Unexpected storyline but with her saying she’s leaving the show would be perfect way for her to “disappear in many ways”. Later getting to see her parents would be great her poor daughter!😭 James Spader is a great actor as always.

    1 1

  162. R

    RedBee

Season 9 will be the last (imo) as a major player has gone. We may not see a full number of episodes with the show possibly being cancelled mid season!? Who does red have to look after now?? I wait and see.

  163. O

    OrangeTag

I was happy it wasn't Reddington and I was tired of her storyline... nevertheless, it seemed as they were finding their way back to each other...that, to me was the saddest part.

  164. O

    OrangeTag

The real reddington was her father, and when he got shot and killed then James Spader took over the role as Reddington. Her mother is reddington?? hahahahaha ffs....

    1

  165. O

    OliveUmbrella

In all honesty, I was not a fan of Spader back in the day, with Pretty in Pink. However, this role is amazingly all him. He is the perfect Raymond Reddington. So much so, that Agent Keen was not a strong enough character. He was the consummate chess player. She showed up with checkers. Hope the series continues… the remaining cast is great.

    1

  166. O

    OliveBoomerang

Didn’t know Megan Boone was leaving the show, and did not expect Liz’s death. Though I figured out during the second to last episode that Reddington is her mother, I was still left very disappointed with the finale. I expected more. Not enough closure. As an aside, did neither Reddington or Liz not think of Agnes as they planned Red’s demise?

    1

  167. C

    CyanBucket

I wonder how many tears were shed for Keen as she flashed back while taking her last breaths. It was an eye roller for my wife and I. We're supposed to believe that she loved her daughter when she spent months apart from her, killing people, blowing up a hospital room, being kidnapped, stalked, stalking with intent to kill, shot, shot at... If my mom had loved me like that I'd have been better off in a foster home.

We used to look forward to watching Blacklist because it was so innovative. Now it's become a joke--like Reddingtons 20 megaton proof Cold War hideout that can be blown open in a few minutes by Townsends goons. Come on! We liked Townsend because he was such a clever, sophisticated evil doer, as is Reddington for that matter, but we watched this last season mainly for the humor--like a modern version of sort Get Smart (yeah I'm over the hill) or an Austin Powers series.

Blacklist has influenced people in surprising ways. I'm convinced Qanon followers mistook it for a documentary, concluding the CABAL whose members eat pizzas topped with child-based pepperoni. (OK you can't blame Blacklist for Pizzagate.) But we'll still watch it for the laughs.

    1 2

  168. G

    GreenBulb

Myself and my wife watched it from the beginning and I was disappointed with the ending red not getting to tell Liz who he really was so much happening and ending like that was very disappointing but will continue watching till the very end. Hope red turns out to be the uncle

    1

  169. C

    CyanPumpkin

It made sense from the beginning that Reds identity wouldn’t be revealed until near the end of the series, then when Megan Boone decided to leave, that changed how they had planned on ending the series, so now it seems disjointed, it will be interesting to see how or if they can pull it together for season 9, which will most likely be the last.

    1

  170. P

    PurpleTrumpet

He told her for a reason she could not open the envelope until after…if she did, she wouldn’t have killed him/her mother. I watched the ending over a few times. Cried. It shows that it is her mother. Remember? He said at some point he had a total makeover.

    1

  171. O

    OrangeScissors

Actually, it's something many people were waiting for all 8 long years being captivated by Mr. Spader's performance and fed up with fake-tough, irritating and unattractive Keen. Red is the Blacklist, and the Blacklist is Red. So many great things to come now, so many opportunities for the screenplay. No more primetime soap comedy with that Aram funny guy, and pity-provoking FBI Ressler. No wonder no one fears the FBI. I mean who? Saint Donald? Gimme a break.... All and all, big kudos to the writers for finally make that step.

    1

  172. C

    CyanPumpkin

I don't think that this ending will suffice her whole story throughout eight seasons. Without Liz alongside Red it just felt like the whole story stopped. Parts of season 8 when she wasn't with him the season felt incomplete. I literally cried and was upset afterwards declaring to my spouse I no longer wanted to watch anymore. Of course even if it had been Red that died, I'd feel the same way. They just are the main ingredients to a whole story.

    1 2

  173. G

    GreenGoggles

While 8 years is a long time to develop a story, I did not see the dramatic exit of Megan Boone coming. There are unanswered questions, such as what will become of Agnes Keene, will we ever know who is really beneath the facade of Red, and who is really Liz's mother?

    2

  174. O

    OliveFlower

I think that, as usual, the Task Force got there too late. I also think that Red should have told Elizabeth that he was, in reality, her mother Katarina.

    3

  175. G

    GoldScooter

This show was totally unrealistic, unbelievable, and stupid. It was like they were making it up as it went along. None of it made any real sense. They tried to cram too much into an ever-expanding theme that was totally NOT believable in so many ways. That's not to mention all the people he killed and somehow he miraculously survives though he freely did whatever he pleased all around the world. Yet no one could kill him. So ridiculously absurd, impossible and un-credible!

    4 7

    1. C

      CyanController

If you felt this way about the show, why didn’t you just change the channel. That to me was more unbelievable than the storyline.

    2. P

      PurpleBattery

      I agree completely.

However the plot line around the incompetence of the FBI bears some truth if we measure the reality of how Federal law enforcement has become too political and not about prosecuting justice.

What I enjoyed about the show was the performance of James Spader as the principal character. Megan Boone's character was too weak for an investigative profiler/ field agent and not believable.

The idea that Reddington is "Katerina" is incredulous and an obvious attempt by the writers to jump on the transgender band wagon to try and extend a story that has become stale and circuitous.

      7

  176. C

    CyanScissors

I think Liz will survive and might undergo plastic surgery (just like her mom - cos Raymond is definitely Liz's biological mom). So that way, they'll be able to replace Liz with another great actor. Her role in the story is too important. But if she died, then this movie will be full of surprises... I love the story line

    1 5

  177. C

    CyanBike

Loved the ending even though I’m sobbing

    GoldCocktail

I think Red is in fact Liz' mom! Red is the imposter she (Katarina) used to hide from the Cabal. She changed sexes. A little preposterous but is the best most fitting solution. It is why Dembe is so protective and why his loyalty is a little weird. And, it is how he got to stay close to Liz all these years.
